Abduct Me, Please! The Zidane/Dagger Club

I would make a pretty banner, but I think this pic serves great justice for now.​

Zidane and Garnet are the lead characters from Square Enix's Final Fantasy IX. This club is dedicated to all aspects them and their relationship.

WHY ZIDANE & DAGGER?​

Well, why the heck not? Personally, Zidane and Dagger are my favourite Final Fantasy couple, period. Their romance is that of a fairy tale: it's forbidden, it's a cliche, it's charming, it's funny, it's sweet, it's tragic and it definitely high in drama. Despite being so against the odds as they are, it is still somehow subtle and believable. For that, they deserve their own club (as any main FF couple/character should, fgj )​

Yeah, I'll join. I'm glad there was a pairing that was cute and actually plausible ^^

I like Garnet/Dagger because although she's a princess, she's far from helpless, and even when she get's to the point of helplessness, she did everything she could to prevent it from happening in the first place. She's very determined and just keeps trying >__<

Zidane, man, I just love this guy. He's so positive about life and encourages everyone. I loved him even more when we got a glimpse that he himself had his own emo-ness that he didn't flaunt around. In that respect, his surprisingly secretive.

As a pairing, as mentioned, it is charming and cliche, but at least it made sense. Zidane hittin' on Dagger right away kind of helps that too

Actually, while it was forbidden, I never got that feeling from the game. Like, everyone was practically booing Zidance for not seeing Garnet off when she became Queen, and with all the crisises going on, I don't think anyone would really care that two were holding hands or whatever xD

The only thing I might criticize about this relationship is that it could've easily just stayed light flirting between friends. It was really the ending sequence that cemented the two were lovers.

On that note, also loved the FFIX ending. Like, I KIND of knew that the black hooded guy would be Zidane, but I was still shocked and when Zidane was revealed I just laughed right out loud 'cause it was one of the most sweetest, cutest gestures I'd ever seen xD

Though I love the pair together, apart they are both amazing characters. Dagger/Garnet is IMO one of the most emotionally strong FF characters period. She starts off the story a little snobby, but she has no qualms in learning the etiquette of non-palace life. Despite her desires for freedom, she never shirks her responsibilities for her own pleasure. Her actions are first for others before they are for herself.

Zidane - how can't you like Zidane, honestly? He's so charming and lovable I think he's one of the most admirable FF characters - he shows compassion for everyone and is just generally very likable. Like any FF heroes, he has his own problems, but like every FF hero before him he comes through with the help of his friends

Zidane/Dagger is just too sweet. You're right in that it could've kept as light flirting through the whole game (like Edge/Rydia from FF4, where Edge would flirt and Rydia would keep blowing him off). I'm so glad it developed into something way more though. To me, what really sold this couple to me was after Garnet becomes Queen. Zidane has completely fallen for her at this point, while Garnet certainly has though she doesn't quite realize it yet. When they finally do see eachother again, he can't properly express how he feels.

Anyways, I love this little scene with Baku:

"We can steal treasure together, just like old times!"

Baku
"Treasure, eh?"
"There ain't much treasure lyin' around in this world, boy."
"Besides..."
"A Tantalus always gets what he sets his eyes on!"
"That's our rule number one, remember!?"
"No, you don't. You got no right to join us."
"You understand what I'm sayin'?"
"If you can't even capture a canary, you ain't got what it takes to join Tantalus!"

and then after Zidane sees Queen Garnet

Zidane
"I couldn't say anything!"
"I had a whole speech ready for her."
"But it would've been a lie! How could I lie to her!?"
"'Good luck, Dagger! I'll be watching you from afar.'"
"'Come find me if you need someone to talk to.’"
"It's a big fat lie! That's not how I feel at all!"
"That's not how I feel...at all."

I think that's the first time Zidane's been completely at a loss for words. He's usually so sure and confident when itcomes to his feelings, but when Dagger's involved he loses it.
I think the couple is believable in the sense that they had a very natural attraction, and of course they would become more attached to another as they go on such an extreme adventure. It's not in-your-face, it's developed steadily throughout the game.

As for the whole forbidden aspect of their relationship, it's not really apparent except for the part of the game when Garnet becomes Queen. Honestly though, out of all the FF couples, Zidane/Garnet is the only one I can't really living happily ever after in the conventional sense. Mainly because I don't really see Zidane becoming King, nor do I see Garnet actually abandoning her responsibilities as Queen. I see them having some sort of life-long affair that everyone basically knows about/understands.

Whee!I wanna join.I love this couple.
I think the picture should say "Ohh,so soft..."That's definately my favorite FF quote in the history of the Final series.
As for the couple,they're a very nice pairing and one of my favorites.I just like how SE combined their personalities.I remember the ending of FFIX and even though it was pretty nice it made me sad cause there was not gonna be any more Garnet x Zidane.

"Ooh, soft" -> definitely one of the most memorable moments between the two. Zidane never fails in providing the lulz.

The ending of FF9 was definitly a happy one, and was very suitable. But at the same time, it was just open ended enough for alot of possibilites for their relationship post-game. I always wondered whether or not Zidane would become King of Alexandria or not, or if Garnet would actually throw away her crown (like in the ending) in order to be with Zidane.

Truthfully, the first time I played FFIX, I didn't understand that Zidane grabbed Dagger's butt xD

But you make a good point. I never really think about FFIX after the ending

In the ending, we do see Dagger run to him, and her the royal treasure fall from her neck, but she just left it behind, so that might indicate that she gives up her title of queen to be with Zidane. Although Zidane being king isn't TOO improbably, since I don't think there is really any advisers or anyone from other nations that would really oppose that.

Or, you know what? Maybe Dagger just reigns as queen without ever getting married, but Zidane stays by her side as a knight ^^

In that case, I wouldn't be surprised if Dagger passed on her title to Eiko then, since she'll be adopted by Regent Cid and his wife Hilda and

I don't know if it's true, but I think that there's a secret scene at Madain Sari that proves Eiko and Dagger are related or something
