Help a good question

Peerless is a status effect that makes characters immune to all physical and magic attacks for a short time. It also has immunities against MP remove attacks and gaining status ailments. The effect can only be used from Aeris' Limit Breaks, the Planet Protector, or the Great Gospel.

Once you obtain these limit breaks, use them, and you'll have the status effect. Planet Protector is a level 3 limit break, and Great Gospel is level 4.

You can also use the Shield Materia which blocks physical damage. I'm not sure if it blocks magical or not. I'm pretty sure you can't use it with added effect either. Its really not the greatest effect but it was worth putting it in the game. Yes Aeris is the only character who can do it perfectly. Which is why I miss her so much.
 
The Shield materia gives you SHIELD, not the peerless status. Yes, it protects you, but it is not nearly the same thing. I just thought I'd make that clear.
