All right fair warning, I feel a rant coming on so this post is probably going to be huge so I'll try to space it out to make it readable. I'll also be writing this as if somebody who doesn't know anything about FFX is reading just so you know.

All right so Final Fantasy X was the first game to be released on the PS2 and also the first Final Fantasy game to ever have voice acting. It takes place in a beautiful little world called Spira, and has way more water than they know what to do with. And Spira is basically ran by Religion and they don't have multiple religions like we do it's just the one, and there god is called Yevon. So whenever you hear me going "Yevon damn" or "Oh my Yevon" that's me referencing the game.

And you'll hear Sin a lot but it's not the kind of Sin you're thinking of. Their Sin is more of an overgrown whale with attitude running around and smashing villages, which doesn't surprise me because Japan was always big with the giant monsters destroying things, they invented Godzilla after all. So we have Sin running around making you wish every village wasn't basically an island he could travel to any time he wished.

The reason Sin is there
is because their forefathers used technology and Machina, machines, which led to a war, people being killed and then bang now you have a giant whale killing people. And it's going to stay that way until they atone for their sins and naturally nobody knows how to go about that. But that what's the teachings of Yevon says so they follow it to the letter.

And we have Summoners who pray to these things called Fayth
which are people who willingly gave their lives to Yevon so they can be called by Summoners and become Aeons/monsters that the Summoners can control and have fight for them.
and that's when one of our main characters called Yuna comes in and starts her Journey to defeat Sin.

There's a temporary solution in defeating Sin that after the summoning of the Final Aeon Sin will not appear for ten years, they call it "The Calm" and it's a period where people can go ten years without having to worry about a giant whale coming to destroy their town and while that may not seem like a long time to an outsider I'm sure to them it's like heaven. So it's easy to feel for them and want them to have that even if it's a temporary fix to a much broader problem.

Now I want to talk about Lady Yuna more. Anybody who talks with me long enough about Final Fantasy will most likely find out that Yuna is my all time favorite female character in Final Fantasy, and that's mainly why I find her pretty damn relatable compared to others. One of the reasons for that is I was a born and raised Christian, she was a born and raised, ummm Yevonite. They never give their followers a title so I'm just going to call her that.

We were both born and raised into our respectable religions by our parents, we never questioned it once to our path to adulthood, and we allowed it to shape our lifestyle; the way we act and dress for example. And when somebody comes along who starts asking us questions we find out that there's so much we don't know because we've never questioned it before in our lives and that's a pretty big aspect of Yuna's character that I liked and that I could relate to and I'm sure a lot of other religious people could relate to her too for those same reasons.

So
surprise, surprise, when you reach the end of the game Yuna and her friends finds out that everything they knew about Yevon and her religion is a lie, all these people have been dying in vain which would include her father, because her father was a big Yevonite and gave his life for that ten year long peace with the belief that maybe this time Sin won't return when it always would, and it was basically going to be an endless cycle. There is no atonement, only more death basically. And that took a big blow to Yuna's resolve as you could probably imagine. I had moments where I doubted my faith and I still do to this day but I never flat out had it pounded into me that my whole religion and everything I knew about it was a lie and that my god was evil...

And Yuna, showing that she's 10x stronger than she looks physically, manages to pull through. That's more than I could say for myself because if I were in her shoes I'd probably crawl up into my subconscious, curl up into a little tiny ball and cry like a baby. So not only can I relate to her I can look up to her too, even though I'm taller, but anyways... I may not have as strong of a connection with the character in the game's sequel but at the same time I still appreciate her because, the Yevonites don't have a death grip on Spira anymore like they did in the first game, Yuna doesn't have as much responsibilities as she used to so she can be a bit more care-free now.

She's older, dressing sexier, just branching out and developing a new-found love for life after everything that happened I'd imagine. It's kinda like with some Atheists I talk to, after being restricted by all the rules of the religion they grew up with and then one day just decide, "That's it I'm done." and becomes an Atheist now they're free to do what they want and that's probably how Yuna feels by the transcension from FFX to FFX-2. In the first game she never really gets the luxury of being that care-free. Yuna isn't all doom and gloom, or serious business, she tells Tidus, the main character you're playing as more on him later, that she wants her journey to be full of laughter. She can still have fun, I mean the girl laughs like an idiot alongside Tidus in one scene that makes the fanbase cringe, so I think that side you see in X-2 was always there she just couldn't embrace it as much in the first game because of all that was happening at the time.

Told ya this was going to be a rant.

Then you have Tidus, who I consider the big "City Boy" in all of this. He's from Zanarkand, which is basically the New York City of the game, I guess you could call it. He's a sports star, star player of his team and all of a sudden he's pulled into this world he has no experience with. And it shows too because he embarrasses himself often, and some times you may just want to face palm but you can't blame him because he's not used to any of this. Tidus is on the outside looking in and that works because the player is going to be on the outside looking in too.

He's a good friend, I'll give him that. He's a pretty good friend to Wakka, which is Yuna's guardian and long time friend, Tidus helps his team out in a big Tournament Game and I thought that was pretty nice. This is coming from a guy who doesn't like Tidus all that much either but he still has some redeeming qualities that I feel makes him an all right character. Maybe it's because I'm older and see things differently but back when I was a kid Tidus just annoyed the hell out of me but the more I understood his role the less he annoyed me.

I kinda want to wrap this up so I'm not going to get into Blitzball, Seymour, Wakka, Lulu, Auron or any of the other characters otherwise I may be talking about it all night so I'll wrap this up with saying, if you can tolerate the voice acting, and I liked the VA back then but when I looked up some clips of it now and watched a scene I cringed, so I see what people are talking about. But if you can look through that and all of the other annoying factors I think the story is worth it and you should be able to find at least one character you can relate with and get behind, whether it's Yuna, Tidus, Auron, Wakka or whoever. If you never played the game before I would certainly recommend it. Feel free to pitch in your thoughts, assuming you read all of this and if you did props man. I don't think even I could read all of this.

I'm Ayen and that's my opinion.

X is my second favorite Final Fantasy. However, instead of being a big fan of Yuna, I'm more of a Tidus fan. I liked his narration ability and I cringe when people say that Yuna was the star of the game (even though it's true, and I don't mind Yuna).

That being said, X was an interesting game with an interesting story and interesting characters. Of course, not everyone is going to think so, either... but such are video games.

Is this about some fans finding Yuna's character annoying ?:hmmm: I dislike FF X, it's my least favorite Final Fantasy. But I have to agree on you about what you said about Yuna. She';s such a brave, strong and unselfish young lady. She may be a little annoying, because she's a bit naive and maybe she doesn't stand up for herself time to time, but why just focus on the character's negatives ? Why not look at Yuna's positive character traits ? She was so bold and unselfish that she was willing to give up everything so others could be happy and enjoy the freedom of living without the fear of Sin. She's also more powerful at black magic than Lulu is, and she's a powerful and deadly summoner which makes her a tank on the battlefield. She's not only a great character, but she's a awesome fighter. Also Yuna's so nice to everybody, she wants to be nice and friendly to anybody to matter what they're like. Meaning that she's open and not a judgmental person. Yuna's is just awesome.

Also even though she's from VII. I really like Tifa because we are both shy to open up our emotions, and we both struggle to express how we really feel when we are in love. I also look up to Tifa because she's a strong boxer warrior and she's so tough.

Nice rant!

I'm on my second run-through right now, my first game-over at Evrae...pain in the ass when you have him down to 6k HP, he breathes in so you pull away, only to have him Scythe Swoop + Poison Breath you. insta-killed me...

As for the storyline, i found it pretty awesome, especially when they're in the summoners sanctum and Tidus finally gets told all about summoners dying when they call the final aeon.

I use to hate and get easily confused with the turn based system, but now that i'm accustomed to it, its pretty awesome, seeing as i don't have to pause the game when i have stuff to do, i can just wait my turn then walk off without fear of being owned lol.

What i've recently been getting into is Blitzball. That's a pretty awesome minigame IMO. i use to hate it, i could never get the hang of it but after taking the time to figure out what everything does, i pretty much win every game now,i no longer fear Ronso Fangs or Albhed Psyches!

Well, that's my rant, that's all i have to say at the moment, probs add more later, once i start doing the Monster Arena stuff or something.
