Square Enix opened a 25th anniversary Final Fantasy site today. The site has a discography, listing all the various FF releases and ports, and a section listing FF-related goods and product.

Also at the site is a Creator's Voice section. Leading off the column is Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada who notes that he joined Square in 2000 ahead of Final Fantasy IX's release.
"We'll take the 25th anniversary as an opportunity to begin our walk towards the next 25 years," wrote Wada. "In order to make the fans happy, we the developer have just one promise we can make. Outside of talent and ability, we will also make sure development is handled exclusively by creators who feel love of the FF series stronger than anyone else."

Ooh, that will be difficult. That will probably involve the radical reorganisation of the company as well as an exodus of a lot of people who seem to lack the apparent "talent and ability" they want - like Watanabe and Toriyama if storytelling is of any indication.

"Love of the FF series stronger than anyone else" - oh what, you mean you are trying to make sure that you will have a workforce comprised of people with actual passionate love for the series? You implicitly mean that currently there are people working on the games that don't really seem to care what they put in the series (looking at some of the DLCs for instance...) so long as they get paid? Hmm, guess that makes sense.

Then bring back Uematsu, Sakaguchi, and a few others. I agree with Fleur though, that's going to alienate and divide the company greatly. In the end, probably for the worst.
