what are your 3 favorite authors of all time
(take note i cant spell)

mine are

tom clancy

Ted Dekker

Anne Rice

My three favorite Authors of all time are :

JK Rowling - Harry potter and what not

Meg Cabot - the princess diaries are so funny

JRR Tolkien - Didnt really appreciate his books when i was younger but now i see that they are genious

Eoin Colfer - Artemis Fowl is amazing

^ You can't count, that was four authors you've listed. ^^

Frank Herbert - For Dune alone he's the best sci-fi writer, the rest of the Dune series I've read are pretty damn good too.

Ian Irvine - Read The Three Worlds series that he works on, some of the best new fantasy novels in the last 10 years.

Orson Scott Card - Ender's Game, awesome book.

Terry Pratchett ~ Discworld series is amazing.
JK Rowling ~ Love the HP series.
Dan Brown ~ I have a deep fondness for the Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons.

Terry Pratchett
John Irving
Anne Tyler

I would say JD Salinger or Donna Tartt but that's more for both writing one brilliant book each (and not writing much else after).

Mine would be J.K. Rowling, JRR Tolkein and Applegate. Those three are brilliant authors. For the latter, I voted for fiction. Originality and creativity is better in this world today.

James Rollins/AKA James Clemens-great writer. Known for such titles as Subterannean, Ice Hunt, (more recently)Map of Bones, and Black Order.

Matthew Reilly-Great great writer. He knows how to keep the action non stop and keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Known for titles as Ice Station, Temple, Scarecrow, and most recently Seven Deadly Wonders.

Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child-(This counts as one! :p) These two writers make up the amazing duo known for Relic, Reliquary, Brimstone, Book of The Dead, and many more. Every book delivers like no other, and there characters are breathtaking in their depth.

JRR Tolkien. Although he has flaws in his writing, he has crafted a world like none other.

R.A Salvatore. The Author of Pop-Fantasy, I just love his characters.

Those are the only two I want to mention at the moment :)

The original 3 I was going to pick are:

Terry Pratchett: For the Discworld series and Good Omens. I have read everything that man has written, I think.

William Gibson: I was surprised no one mentioned him. The first real poet of sci-fi and the inventor of cyberpunk and for that matter, the man who visualized the internet 15 years before it's existence. If any of you haven't yet read Neuromancer I suggest you start there and keep going until you've read everything he's written. I already have.

Orson Scott Card: For the Ender series, the Bean series, and the Alvin Maker series.

I also noticed Garth Nix, Frank Herbert, and JRR Tolkien mentioned. There's way too many writers out there for me to narrow it down to just three. Also surprised no one mentioned Neil Gaiman, especially since he did a Sandman comic collaboration with Yoshitaka Amano.

J.R.R. Tolkien --- genius books LOTR.

Mark Twain --- his satire Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer are just classics and are greatly entertaining.

J.K. Rowling --- the most popular author of our time deserves it for me.
I love Harry Potter. Quite entertaining reads.
