It looks like those reports from last week about Final Fantasy Type-0 having its very own "Crystarium" system were accurate. Dengeki has details this week, and Sokuho@Hokanko has, as always, provided a detailed summary.

In Final Fantasy XIII, the Crystarium was a graphical growth system for powering up your characters. It was used to unloc new spells and boost HP, MP and other parameters.

In Type-0, the Crystarium system is actually called "Alto Crystarium." You use this system to power up your magic.

Defeated enemies leave "Phantoma," which is said to be the source for magic. When you suck this up, your magic recovers a bit. The amount of recovery depends on the type of Phantoma, as indicated by the color.

The Phantoma is also used in the Alto Crystarium to power up your magic. Depending on the type of magic, you can power up the magic in different areas. For example, your Fire RF magic can be powered up in strength, MP usage, call time, projectile distance and speed. Increasing the Fire RF magic's strength parameter requires six red phantomas.

Separate from the Crystarium details, Dengeki has general details on the game's magic system. Magic comes in three elemental types: fire, ice and thunder. The various spells also differ in attack pattern and call method. There are at least five varieties in this area:

SHG (Shotgun): This type spreads at multiple height levels. It doesn't travel far, but is powerful against close enemies.

RF (Rifle): This type shoots out straight in the direction of the target. It travels far but has narrow range.

BOM (Bomb): This type is effective in your immediate surroundings. It can be useful against quick enemies and small enemies.

MIS (Missile): This type chases after the enemy before releasing its magic. The higher level (that is, the magic with the "ra" and "ga" at the end of their names) will expand to encompass surroundings.

ROK (Rocket Launcher): When you begin casting this type, a target will appear. The magic will fire in the direction that you aim. When it strikes, it will explode and damage enemies in the surroundings.

In Final Fantasy XIII, the Crystarium was a pretty fusion between the Sphere Grid of FFX and a watered down Job System half a done FF games use, for powering up your characters. It was used to unlock new spells and boost HP, MP and other parameters.
Fixed.

In Type-0, the Crystarium system is actually called "Alto Crystarium." You use this system to power up your magic.
And I suppose that single nonsensical word (well, actually, it's apparently a musical term for "high"...and it's also a brand of Japanese car) is supposed to make it any different? :hmmm:

Totally original. Haven't seen this in three million other forms before, no sir. Thumbs up to Square Enix for breaking the mould.

O Chosen One, bring together all three, their treasures combined tame the Beast of the Sea :ryan:

Just looking at those abbreviations sends shivers through my spine. I actually had hopes for Type-0 before I saw the word "Crystarium" associated with it. Honestly, is there no hope for this company? It was a bad idea. It was a bad system. Why are they putting it in one of their more promising-looking PSP games? Are they trying to commit financial suicide?

It looks like those reports from last week about Final Fantasy Type-0 having its very own "Crystarium" system were accurate.
Lies. This is EXACTLY the same as the Crystarium we were so lovingly presented with in FFXIII, just with slightly different terminology and an elaborate "Alto" stuck at the front of it. If they're stupid enough to cap this one as well to stop you from grinding though, I am going to go absolutely insane...

I guess this is a more detailed version. Thought I would post what the magic system and gun system is like. This does not need a new thread as this one has a bit already.

All About Final Fantasy Type-0′s Magic System And Gun-Like Attributes

Dengeki PlayStation has a detailed look at Final Fantasy Type-0′s magic system, which ties elemental magic with a types of firearms. You can cast fire, ice, and lightning spells in the PSP game. Magic also has an attack pattern attribute and Dengeki PlayStation shared five of those in their latest issue.

Rifle (RF) is for straight shots of fire, ice or lightning. While this type of magic can hit targets from far away, it’s area of effect is narrow. Shotgun (SHG) class spells have a wide blast radius that can hit several close targets, but these spells don’t cover the same amount of distance. Missile (MIS) class spells are homing attacks. When you reach higher tiers of magic (-ra and –ga spells) missile spells gain an area of effect bonus. Bomb (BOM) class spells create short range explosions, which are particularly effective against small enemies. Rocket launcher (ROK) magic makes a target appear. You can move the sight and aim an explosive elemental blast at enemies. While five classes of magic were shown, it appears Square Enix created more. King, as seen above, has Thunder MW as one of his commands.

Enemies release phantoma after you defeat them. Hold R and press up you can lock on and absorb phantoma to recover a bit of MP. Phantoma is also used to strengthen magic via the Alto Crystarium system. For example, you can enhance Fire RF’s (that’s Fire Rifle) attack power, MP use, casting time, distance, and speed. If you want to up attack power you need to have six red phantoma crystals. It’s possible to change spells into Fire RF2 and Fire SHG too.

Shotgun [SHG] type attacks are short-range attacks that are stronger the closer you are to an enemy. Higher levels of magic (-ra and –ga spells) increase range and the projectiles fired.

Rifle [RF] attacks are long-range attacks that go straight. While they can hit from farther away, their area of effect is narrow. Higher tier spells come with an increased rate of fire.

Bomb [BOM] class spells are short-range explosive attacks, effective against small enemies. The area of effect increases with higher tiers of magic.

Missile [MIS] class spells are homing attacks. Higher tiers of magic come with an area of effect bonus.

Rocket launcher [ROC] attacks, a targeting cursor appears and you can manually aim an explosive blast at enemies. Higher tier spells increase range.

Downed enemies release Phantoma. By holding R, you can absorb Phantoma to recover MP.

Phantoma can be used to strengthen magic using the Alto Crystarium system. You can enhance attributes such as attack power, MP use, casting time, distance and speed.

Pretty standard stuff, to be honest...it isn't much of a magic system, more of a weapons system...and a very basic, mediocre weapons system, the kind that you'll find in, oh, I don't know, every FPS in existence.
