Possibly some of the most popular events in our current culture are the music festivals up and down the country throughout the year. Will you be attending any this year? Do you know who you're going to see? Who do you hope turns up?

For those of you not even considering going...why not?!

As for myself, I'm getting up at 9am this Friday to book my first T in the Park ticket...it's a good line-up, it's the last chance I'll have to go with all of my current friends, and I feel mature enough to handle it this year. :wacky:

T in the Park isn't really my scene. Mostly pop/indie bands/artists and from what I heard there is a growing amount of neds going over the past few years.

So far out of what has been confirmed, the only acts I like are Kings of Leon, Bloc Party and the Killers and even at that I don't think they are anything to get excited about. Some other artists I don't mind but I probably wouldn't go and see are Snow Patrol and Razorlight. Surely Biffy Clyro would be confirmed at some point as they have played there like 7 years in a row which would probably to any list for T in the Park for me.

Anyway, if I am to go to a festival it would probably be Download 09. Last year Download had my favourite band Alter Bridge as well as bands that I like such as Biffy Clyro, Seether, Lostprophets, Black Stone Cherry, Fightstar, Rise Against, Stone Gods, Airbourne, Motorhead, Disturbed, Judas Priest as well as artist that I find decent like Kids in Glass Houses, Coheed & Cambria, Jimmy Eat World and Simple Plan. I would have definitely enjoyed that.

Bands for Download 09 that I like are Slipknot, DragonForce, Deff Leppard, Whitesnake, ZZ Top, Korn and Motley Crue and other bands include Marilyn Manson, The Prodigy, Pendulum, Limp Bizkit, Trivium, Killswitch Engage and DevilDriver. Even the ones I don't particularly like I can tolerate. I will be interesting to see who else will be performing.

Bollocks to Download, It's all about Graspop!......but thats in Belgium so has no place in this thread.

Well I wsn't really planning on any UK fests this year as I wanted to go to Wacken (Germany) and Graspop (as mentioned, Belgium) but Wacken has sold out within hours and Graspop is still a possibility if I can afford it.

Only UK fest I am DEFINITLY going to is the Trowbridge Village Pump Festival. It's not a mainstream fest and it is mostly folk, acoustic rock etc, but does have a nice variaty of different styles also. Main reason I go every year is ofcourse it is held just outside my hometown. Its a whos-who of the area, getting wankered on god knows what drugs are going about, listening to acts from around the world on hot summer days/nights. Top stuff

I don't mind some acoustic/folk rock but I don't really know much about any artists in that genre. Graspop looks good although my favourite band hasn't performed there in a few years. :( Also like you said it is in Belgium. Nothing attracts me to Wacken.

Actually, despite being in a different country, Graspop would just be as costly as Download at the end of it....if not cheaper. Most of the bands I wouldn't mind seeing at Download are at Graspop. Graspop also has a much friendlier atmosphere than Download.

You don't really need to know the artists of the genre....I don't. Just pick up a programme and whatever sounds like it could take your fancy go check it out. Seen some mind blowing sets from the Waterboys (folk), Alabama 3 (Country Acid-House, did the theme tune to 'The Soprano's'), Mystery Juice (Very fast heavy rock with some insane violin work), Hayseeddixie (covers well-known rock songs in hillbilly style) and Don MacLean was pretty fun (famous for "bye-bye, miss american pie....").

Meh, festivals don't appeal to me at all. Take TITP for example, there's probably only one or two bands out of the whole line-up that I like, and there would be plenty which I can't stand. And I don't really care for seeing live bands anyway, so.... >_>

It depends on your favourite music genre as T in the Park is mostly indie rock/pop stuff which I could probably tolerate but I wouldn't pay the shit loads of money to watch mediocre bands perform. Also like I said in my previous post, the event seems to becoming too 'casual' with many saying that more and more neds show up to T in the Park (For those outside of Scotland - a 'ned' is basically a 'chav'. Just scum). I don't think I could be at an event for a few days knowing I will have to put up with these types of pricks.

Chavs will show up at any festival. and as a festival gets bigger every year more will want to turn up. It happens. I've seen Chavs at the Pump, Download....and even Bloodstock (talk about brave).

Yeah but T in the Park is very casual so a lot of them do go there. I don't know about down south but in Scotland if chavs like the slightest bit of rock then it is most likely bands like The Killers, Razorlight, Kings of Leon, Glasvegas, The Kooks etc which are the types of bands that would appear at TITP. No doubt that these scum would go to other events but one as casual as T in the Park will attract a lot of them.

I just relocated from Denmark to Adelaide in South Australia about a month ago, so I have absolutely no idea what's going on down here festival-wise! If I was back home in Denmark though, I'd probably try and make it to Roadburn, Keep It True, Doom Shall Rise or one of the other smaller (and great!) metal festivals in Europe.

From what I've seen so far, the only festival that is slightly appealing to me this year is V, and even that is only because Oasis and The Killers are there, who I could see for much cheaper alone. So I think I'll be giving this year a miss.
