Final Fantasy XIV recently concluded on November 11th after a final battle for Eorzea. The End of an Era trailer marked not only the final breath for the MMORPG, but a full shift in attention to A Realm Reborn. While servers are currently offline, Square Enix took feedback from the fans on how to proceed given the gap of time between Version 1.0 and 2.0.
While the alpha phase has commenced, and beta scheduled for late January/early February, some players wanted still wanted to play Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 while they wait. So, Square Enix’s plan is thus: servers will return tomorrow, November 21st, and after each month ends the server population will be calculated to determine if the game will stay on. The magic number is 30%. If the population drops below that number, the server will not be opened for the next month.
Servers will rolled back to patch 1.23b which went live in September, preceding the final events that took place this month. There will still be a wealth of perks such as:
+ Increase in anima recovery rate
+ Reduction of all gear repair costs to 1 gil
+ Chance to obtain job-specific weapons on login for players who logged out in an inn room
+ Relaxed requirements for participating in “Bowl of Embers (Extreme),” and for undertaking the quests “To Kill a Raven” and “Living on a Prayer”
The latter two quests involve a battle with Nael Van Darnus, which will not return for A Realm Reborn. You will have a chance to experience this content before it’s gone forever! Keep in mind that character data was saved on November 1st to be ported to A Realm Reborn, and any character data thereafter will not be saved.
For players anticipating A Realm Reborn, keep an eye on your email over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, as the team plans to kick off alpha for North America and Europe on Monday, November 26th. “Weather” permitting, of course. Also, the Letter from the Producer Live #4 has been translated and subtitled by Square Enix — and it contains a lot of interesting information and messages from the staff. Be sure to check it out above!
