When you play a fighting game, which style do you prefer?

Do you like 2 dimensional fight games where the characters can only go up, forward or backwards, like the "Streetfighter" series?

Do you like 3 dimensional fight games where you can move everywhere, like in "Tekken"?

Or do you like a combination of both, where the character can move up, forward, backwards and switch between the foreground and background, like in the "Naruto" series?

Personally, I love 3-D games, where the characters range of movement is unlimited.

3-D
And it's just because it's more aesthetic to me, I mean it looks nicer and more realistic.
But for some reason 2-D just works for some games, like in Pokemon.

depends....
the old oddworld, mario and worms were amazing even though they were 2d
3d games give more freedom

You make an excellent point, Gabranth. Some games just work better in 2-D, like "Megaman" and "Castlevania". But neither those games nor the ones you mentioned are fighting games. I was just curious as to how you prefer your fighting games to be.

I like 3-D, but I prefer chibi oldschool over new realistic games. ^_^

i hate using nina
bryan law and lei are teh best ^_^
i like tekken but old tekken was my fav
i owned anyone at tekken 3 on the ps1

Btw I like King of Fighters. I always watch my bf play. ^_^

hm i dont like lee
bryan hits hard and is fast once you know how to master his 10 hit combo

Plus, don't forget SFX is way better in 3D obviously, than the pixely looking SFX on 2D games.
I love graphics these days...

I like both, really. They are different styles.

Street Fighter = The Shit

DoA 4, Virtual Fighter, etc. = The shit

It all depends. The 3-D ones incorporate more strategic and knowing of the buttons while the 2-D ones are button mashing to a T. Even then some, both are quite fun. It all depends the mood. A good fight or a fun fight. =D

Wow, I'm the only one that voted for 2-D. Well, here's how I see it. 2D is a reminiscence of my childhood back then, so I suppose that is the main reason why I love it. 3-D works just fine for me as well, but since I don't play as much fighting games anyway, I really don't have a favorites. Tekken got old for me really fast though. They made so many already. =/ But games such as 2-D Street Fighter - now that's still hot!

2D by far for me. I like both sets of games for the most part but give me King Of Fighters and Street Fighter any day and I'll lose myself in them for hours. There's no running away in 2D fighters really, if you're in the corner you're going to have to know your characters' quick pokes to try and work an opening for yourself, no cheap sidestepping. I s'ppse it's also because 2D fighters have had an extra 5 or so years to mature and refine their styles.

i said a combination, it brings together the "old-schoolness" of the classics with the "modern pwnage" of the new stuff ;)

Lol. Are you sure that you chose that option not because of the word "Naruto" in it? You seem to be predisposed to that show my friend ;)
