As an attempt to reduce power consumption following Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, both MMORPGs to be unavailable for one week.
Square Enix has temporary halted service on Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV. As with Konami's stoppage of Metal Gear Online, the move is in response to potential energy shortages following Friday's Tohoku earthquake.
Service on the two MMORPGs is being halted for one week starting yesterday (3/13) at 19:00. Certain Play Online support services have also been halted, although the PlayOnline and Lodestone user sites will still be accessible.
Plans beyond the first week be announced later.
Due to the stoppage of service, Final Fantasy XI's April service will be free.
This stoppage applies to the game both in and out of Japan. Players outside of Japan should check with their version of Play Online for further details.
