Theatrythm: Final Fantasy isn’t too far off; Square Enix will release the game in Japan this winter, and according to Japanese retail blog, Sinobi, revealed to Famitsu that it will have over 50 songs spanning the original Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy XIII.

Earlier, we reported that Theatrhythm is split up into episodes, each one representing one of the thirteen games. Each episode is further split up into three stages: field, battle and event. It sounds like one piece of music corresponding to each of those stages will be picked from the thirteen games, adding up to the game’s 50+ playlist.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy will also have surround sound. Square Enix revealed that the game originally started out as a Nintendo DS project, but was moved to the Nintendo 3DS due to cartridge space issues. This also lead to a great improvement in sound quality.

Amongst the monsters in the game, you’ll see faces like Final Fantasy VIII’s Gesper. Chocobos, too, will make an appearance in the game, as will some version of Cid.

Update: Bombs, behemoths, and other famous monsters from the Final Fantasy series will make an appearance in this title too. While the characters are based on the Kingdom Hearts avatars, players will not be able to dress the heroes in Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy.

Characters level up by gaining "Rizupo," which I think this is a portmanteau for rhythm points. During the game Theatrhythm will only use original music. Players will hear arranged themes in the menu. Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy is slated for release this winter in Japan.

That's an average of 3 songs per game. Given how many fantastic tracks there are across those games, that is piss poor. When they say "over 50" they usually mean 52, or some other number relatively close to the number they specify. I suppose there is the possibility of other songs being released at a later date - and it wouldn't surprise me if they did just that - but...well, come on. They should be saying something like "over 100 songs" because there is plenty there, and its not like the 3DS isn't capable of holding that much.

So, there will be at least seventeen episodes. Three stages, one piece of music per stage, over fifty tracks. I expect it will be exactly seventeen episodes and when Square Enix said "50+" what they really meant was "51" :ffs:

Oooh, fantastic :jess:
...but if its been moved from the DS to 3DS, I expect it is going to feel rather incomplete. What are the odds that they redesigned it?

Oh, I hope it's Cid Raines...

:gonk:
...but then, I suppose the sprites aren't detailed enough to allow people to mess around with them.

Actually, "Rizupo" sounds like a drunk Moogle...
Also...original music is good, but some jazzed up remixes would have been nice. Maybe not every song, but something like what they did with Dissidia...some remixes, and some originals. That's quite disappointing, actually...

3 songs each Final Fantasy title ? Then it would be world map theme, battle theme and boss theme or final boss theme depending on what's more poplaur for the title. So Final Fantasy V for a example would have Four hearts for it's world map theme, normal battle music and then Battle on the Big Bridge for the final battle, which assuming it's going to be Gilgamesh instead of Exdeath having a larger fanbase. That's not impressive at all.
