Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase has told SPOnG that Final Fantasy XIII-2 will focus a lot more on player choice and involvement than its predecessor.

Fans were critical of various aspects of Final Fantasy XIII when it was released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Kitase said that his team heard the concerns and it has been working hard to resolve them.

"I think Final Fantasy XIII was criticised by lots of people because we think it was meant to be story driven, but so much so that people thought it was quite linear, which people didn't like," he said.

"So before we started making Final Fantasy XIII-2, we were determined to take all the negative comments seriously, and rectify every single one of them, thoroughly and completely.

"This game is more player driven rather than story driven, so that the player will have an active involvement in each phase of the game. There are a lot more things in the field that you can explore, like towns… and you can also choose what you want to say and do during various scenes. It will give players more freedom."

The problem was that characters were bland and boring, not because the game was story driven. That's a good thing. You don't have to listen to 15 year old whining western retards who doesn't know jack shit about anything. Do what you want to do.

That was actually one of the main reason I liked FFXIII. I like most FF's because of their stories, this one wasn't so bad, in fact it was probably one of the best stories in FF (top 5 defo). It probably just had the worst gameplay of the series and the linearity of the game was just unbearable for most. I also have to agree the characters were annoying, boring and stupid but that was half of the characters (Snow,Hope and Vanille). Sazh, Fang and Lightning are the only ones with some sense of decency, even though Lightning kind of lacked it at the beginning, but she wasnt stupid or boring she was more cool. Noel doesnt look like he'll be a problem, but I'm guessing Vanille might be the new (and worse) Hope, if you seen her in the latest trailer she needed protected all the time. But other than that it seems fine.

I'm kinda sad that this isnt gonna be as concentrated on the story, however it doesnt bother me much as long as they dont keep us relying on datalogs and give us as little information as possible during cutscenes.

No more story! Oh well. Better make 'em think that we're doing something awesome with the characters. Serah can fight now, cool, right?

Are you kidding me? Just when I was thinking how awesome FFXIII-2 was looking, they say this crap.

Being story driven is a GOOD thing. I dont want it to be like Mass Effect where you have a main character that is bland as all hell and you choose everything.

Just make the gameplay better, which was already good, and make it less linear and thats all they needed to do. Now Im in doubt mode.
