    Missed "gems"

I feel like the biggest games of recent memory that I'm missing out on are the Mass Effect series. Also, I own Fallout 3, but have never played more than an hour or two. I feel that Shin Megami Tensei: Nocture (Lucifer's Call in some areas) is a hidden gem that not enough people have played. It...

    Final Fantasy has gone down-hill

Great post, Ballade. One thing I will say though is we live in an ADD generation, everyone wants everything now, wants things to happen instantaneously, and it shows in all forms of life. Compared to the popular games of 15 years ago, current games reward the player much more easily, and are a...

    What are you currently reading?

I've just finished Isaac Asimov's Foundation and Empire. I liked it a lot, but I think I preferred the first one, Foundation. I'm on to the third in the trilogy now, Second Foundation.

Help Got Stuck in Elena, Reno and Rude battle

Only thing I'll add to this in case everyone reads this thread in future is this: If you're attempting to steal all the rare items from them, make sure you remove all counter attacking materia prior to the battle. I have the Cover/Counter Attack/HP Plus combo up on a seriously overpowered Tifa...

Starting the Final Fantasy franchise : need directions?

In that case my personal favourites that I'd recommend are VII, VIII and X. IX really encapsulates the spirit of the old games really well, but I don't like the battle system as much as some others. It's still a great story and has great music though.

Playstation Tales of Symphonia to Get Possible PS3 HD re-Release

I'd be first in line if it did come out. It's my favourite Tales game by far. Given I've already played it though, I might get sucked into trophy-hunting.

Starting the Final Fantasy franchise : need directions?

Are you new to RPGs? Are you comfortable playing games from previous generations?

Nintendo Pokemon X and Pokemon Y

Can't say I'm thrilled about this Mega- garbage. I have faith though, in the main, I always like Pokémon games. It will be interesting to see how the accessing EVs easier will pan out too. I quite like the system as it is now, but we'll have to see.

Which FFVIII Guardian Force you wish to be featured again?

Cerberus probably, but his strengths were his support abilities more so than the actual summon itself. He was also one of the coolest looking of the summons. I think the concept could be reworked into another FF game really well, perhaps casting Haste on all characters.

who is the hardest boss fight/boss fights for you to fight in final fantasy VIII

I've had big trouble with the Jumbo Cactuar in the past, but I know how to prepare for him these days. Adel can be tricky too, on my first playthrough I abandoned my game because I thought I was too weak, and wanted to start afresh. To be an enthusiastic pre-teen again...

    FFV: What would you change?

I make my own Red Mages; use a White Mage with the highest !Black ability. They aren't as good physically as a Red Mage might be, but magically they're fantastic. The only thing I'd change is I'd flesh the character's personalities out a little more. Pegged between FFIV and FFVI, the cast of...

    FFVII General Discussion

Like General Beatrix, my favourite part is the Cosmo Canyon sequence, perhaps the high point of the entire series for me. Honestly though, I think from the moment you first hit the world map, all the way to Rocket Town, that 3-5 hour stretch is all the best part of the game for me. It's where...

It's cool to say that this game is overrated nowadays

I think it's an interesting case because very few games manage to elicit such a strong opinion from so many different people. A young gamer today wanting to go back and play games from that generation might be a little confused by the vastly differing opinions everyone has. There must be...

    Which Console(s)/Handheld(s) Do You Own?

In chronological order. Master System Mega Drive Game Boy Saturn PlayStation Gameboy Colour PlayStation 2 Xbox Gameboy Advance Gamecube Gameboy Advance SP DS PS3 Xbox 360 The only one I no longer own is the Saturn. I've had two of them decide they no longer enjoy reading discs. Next purchase...

    Favorite Job/Class?

I like Paladin. In FFIV, I loved Cecil's character arc, and in battle the physical/white magic combination is really effective. I know it's not as common as say, White Mage or whatever, but in games like FFVII and FFVIII, Cloud and Squall usually end up being Paladins anyway in that they're...

    Last TV Show You Watched

My girlfriend and I are currently making our way through House at the moment, and we've just started on Season 4. I've actually seen right up until the end of Season 7, but it's all new to her, she hasn't seen any of them yet. Then, I have Season 8 unopened sat waiting for me when we reach the...

What magazines to you enjoy reading?

I had all the WWE magazines from 1994-1996 in great condition saved until fairly recently. We were moving house and I was subpoena'd into throwing a lot of things like that out. Bret Hart used to have a silly column in the back where he'd answer kid's emails, often in character. Anyways, I...

Books you had to read for school...and hated!

I didn't like any of the Shakespeare stuff we did. I think we only really covered Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth in any detail, but I didn't enjoy them. Then we did an awful lot of work on William Golding's Lord of the Flies, which I didn't appreciate at the time, but in hindsight it wasn't too...

Why did this game not come to America?

According to the Wikipedia article, FFV was "just not accessible enough to the average gamer". Although it has "basically the same plot" in your words, I'd say FFIV was far more sophisticated in it's storytelling, there is a rich cast of characters, we're the four (five) characters in FFV are...

    Your First RPG?

It was Pokémon Red, I think. I got FFVII right around that time, but I'm 90% sure I got FFVII first. I would have been 12 at the time. When I got the hang of the exp/levelling side of things it quickly became my favourite genre. I always liked the customization these games tend to offer. Pokémon...
