Mystic Knight. Both because of the look of the sprite itself, and the tremendous usefulness of the ability: One casting and you are golden for the rest of the battle, particularly against
I have to agree: The Desert Barettas were a pain. They were able to deal some pretty considerable damage even to my Lv. 90 party. Would not be so bad, but if you ran into a number of them on the way to the mirage tower, your run through the sky fortress could get dicey.
Good stuff. There are several that warrant honorable mention:
Kefka: For pure, burning ambition. Probably the most ambitious of the villains (beside maybe Kuja) Kefka can and does do anything to make himself into a God, committing some of FF's most glaring atrocities in the process.
Seifer...
Yeah, you want to be sailing the coastline near the sunken tower of Walz, as close to the actual location of the tower as you can be. I think it took me an hour and a half. Pop in a movie, or get some homework done while you wait.
For me, it has gotta be Cait Sith's megaphone. He doesn't even use it as a weapon. I presume it exists simply to control the giant moogle, because the actual attack only consists of the moogle Hulk-slamming the opposition with his hands. Ugh.
Least Favorite: FFII
- The Beaver Cave part cracked me up
- Great supporting cast: Leila, Josef, Richard, and Ming-Wu were all awesome
- Maria was hot...for a sprite
Most Favorite: FFVIII
- Time Compression was almost even more confusing than was FFI's time loop
- There was no cathartic...
I wonder if that same decision would still be made today. If I am not mistaken PS3 currently outsells 360 now that they are both competing at the same sales point. Such wasn't the case when this decision was originally made.
I remember struggling with that boss as well. If I remember right, the enemies in the hockey rink give good exp and ap. Otherwise my advice is just to spam your fastest and strongest GFs, and if you have any Aura spells use em up.
@Fiore: Good point as to the amount of dialogue in this game. It is also notable that this is really the first FF game that tried to do more than just offer gameplay -- the story of FFI is nearly non-existent, II amounts (IMO) to a lot of busy work, and III has a decent story but zero...
In the original NES version, that grave read: "Here lies Edrick" (sp?) a reference to the Dragon Warrior game authored by then rival Enix. Now that Square and Enix have since merged, it makes sense that they would change the tombstone in subsequent re-releases.
Really good thoughts LiquidEnergon. I think that while story is one of the most important qualities to FF fans, they are a little too quick to dismiss gameplay. For example, take into account some of the least popular FF Games: FFII and FFVIII (which happens to be my personal favorites)...
Dirges for Damcyan = ClaridgeClan
I play Modern Warfare 2, Resident Evil 5, NCAA Football 10, Borderlands, Killzone 2, and others. Love to play with you.
Nope. Of course I played on the SNES. I had originally considered getting all of the secret summons, and the pink tail and so on. But then it took me 4 straight hours of fighting goblins to get the goblin summon. After that I just said forget it.
Hmmm, well ExDeath from FFV took me a really long time for some reason. As did CoD from FFIII. The longest though is probably Ultimicia for me -- sooo many forms, and her ability to blow away magic can lengthen the fight considerably...especially if she picks Aura.
As said previously, FFXIII will in fact be for 360. The other stand alones are for PS2, PS1, SNES and NES. If you are just diving into the games, and are concerned about having "good graphics," you would probably want to start with FFX. If you are less concerned with good graphics, FFVII is a...
While I like the decision aspect, I think it would be problematic for FF. The entire game is premised on story and character development. The "Decision Tree" paradigm seems to work best in games like KOTOR where the main character is an everyman, and it does not really matter who they are...
