The game left behind a lot from the final fantasy's. Post somethings you think the game missed out.

-holy spell for medic (my fav spell)
-no elemental boosts (just defence) items
-no airship fun
-no world exploring

I might be wrong I am human. Just hope the second version will have a bleeding Holy spell.

I agree with the Holy spell thing but I have some more gripes as well:

-no top tier magic (Holy, Meteor, Scathe, Flare, Ardor)
-only side quests were monster killing ones
- couldn't backtrack to other areas except Pulse and Eden once it was over
- not enough time devoted to learning more about the six heroes, some were too mysterious since I wasn't satisfied with Lightning's development although I loved her personality and battle skills
- this is a minor one but there were no limit breaks/overdrives
- NO MINI-GAMES! That was just ridiculous and the perfect time to do that would have been in Nautilus
-only having control over the leader, it wouldn't have been hard to let us switch between members on the fly

Listing all the things missing in FFXIII would take me half the night. But the most noticeable include the following:

- A storyline
- Proper explanation of the thoroughly confusing nonsensical terminology
- A proper villain
- Likeable characters
- Decent soundtrack
- Post-game bosses that were actually challenging
- Towns
- Intelligent (or at least competent) AI
- The ability to backtrack
- The ability to do anything beyond travel in a straight line, battle, and watch boring cutscenes
- Short cutscenes
- Freedom to level up as you see fit

...and, most damning of all, actual gameplay.

About your 4th point, I agree. Seems all that is going on is La this La that. Sure Hopes dad is big stuff, same with snows pussy being frozen and the ability to talk about how they need to do something.

I think it is the script that makes the characters seem so horizontal.

Really?

Sorry, but I really really really need to put my 2 cents here. And I am by NO means trying to defend 13 as 'epic' but it IS a good game. so I'm gonna paste, and put my defese next to the things you deemed 'lacking'. And I am by no means trying to be a troll, or start an arguement, so plz don't take it as such.

- A storyline- Really? It has a GREAT storyline IF you keep playing thru.
- Proper explanation of the thoroughly confusing nonsensical terminology-again, pay attention. I have no problem with this.
- A proper villain-ok. you got me there.
- Likeable characters-I half agree here. Some guys were awesome. Hope-WORST and most hateable charrie EVER.
- Decent soundtrack- I LOVE the music in game. It's different, but it ROCKS.
- Post-game bosses that were actually challenging-ok again, you win.
- Towns-gonna just go on here..
- Intelligent (or at least competent) AI-I think they actually did decent.
- The ability to backtrack-Huge killer. But the rest makes up.
- The ability to do anything beyond travel in a straight line, battle, and watch boring cutscenes-again, sorry. LOVE the cut scenes. But they did get riddiculous at times. This is FF, not Metal Gear. (gonna get sued ain't I?)
- Short cutscenes-read above.
- Freedom to level up as you see fit. Really?
