Due to the fact that the summons Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut, Alexander and such are no where to be found in XII, they have taken on the form of airships (forms of transport); and we all know that XIII's summons (most likely seeing the return of Ifrit and co.) are likely to have vehicle forms (Shiva being the only one confirmed to date) it seems that XII acts as a sort of pre-mature concept that paved the way for XIII...?:unsure:
 
I get what you're saying. I just really don't think that's the case. Mainly because not all the new summons will transform into airships. And to say that they were both robotic isn't really right because one was just a name and the other is something that transforms between beast and metal. For there to be any connection it would need to be very abstract. Too abstract for me to think there was one.
 
I don`t think that the famous summons like shiva, ifrit, alexander or so... are goin to be forgotten as the good guardian forces they were. Just because they are like the main simbol of the final fantasy saga. squareenix will know that we're goin to miss them if they're goin to use them for "non guardian forces purposes "

Oh, I also have to say that final fantasy XII has for summons the same ones from tactics and tactics advance; histories from Ivalice, that no other final fantasy posseses.... so by now, we dun have that much of proof to say that it's a future sight.

And about ffXIII, we just know that Shiva is kinda machine too, but we don`t know anything about ifrit, or the other famous and classic summons.

Maybe so, but I don't see Square-Enix dropping an aspect of gameplay like that anytime soon. They might use some for airship names, but I believe they'll continue using them in the traditional way.
 
Now what will be interesting is if they end up reversing what happened in Final Fantasy XII. There will continue to be airships in the series no matter what the game #. And since we probably won't ever see Zalera, Hammashal, or any of the other espers again... they might be the name of future airships. It would a nice tongue-in-cheek tie-in to FFXII

True. I mean, even in XII, they were never forgotten. They just changed the name and all that jazz, but the special abilities were all there. Hmm, and XII as a sort of pre-mature concept that paved way for XIII...? Meh, I'm not so sure about that. XII is its own game. Unique ideas, new names, new storyline. That would be the case for XIII as well. The fact that Shiva and some of the summons will transform to some sort of transportation, clearly suggests that Square is aiming for something fresh.
