do you know any people like this

what do they say when you explain to them that any form of betting system they use is doomed to failure, as all games excluding blackjack have an innate house advantage

they don't work, they are programmed to lose 99% of the time regardless of how accurate your spins are

little old ladies tend to spend hours feeding them quarters though, i saw quite a few of them in Vegas

In poker there are always winners and losers. Because you aren't versing the house it is possible to win money.

Although the house is the only one making a consistent profit from it.

My grandmother is the kind of person who'll sit down at a slot machine and walk away up a couple hundred bucks. She was flying through either Vegas or Reno once, and played the slots there and won $500.

I won $99 on a hand of Let It Ride. Finished up $45 for the day. So it's not impossible.

in poker the house is the dealer and they take such a large cut from antes that it's extremely difficult to make any money

however since private poker games are easy to organize and often much more enjoyable most decent players do not go to casinos to play the game, hence they don't really count

talking about COMPULSIVE gamblers here. the people who believe they can make a living at it

that using a doubling up system will somehow allow them to beat the odds at craps and roulette

Well, a friend of the family one time won $80,000. She bought a BMW with it. I would have invested that money.

But I have heard about someone that is a professional gambler. He makes his living off gambling. He's apparently very rich so I guess it works with him.

I do not take my chances with slot machines though.

I went to Morongo once and hit up the slots. Left that area up about $40. It IS possible.

nobody in their right mind would ATTEMPT it. obviously there are occasional exceptions, but in all likelihood you are not one of them. that's what I'm saying

it's better to invest your money in a private game that mixes luck and skill, such as poker, bridge, or pinochle

champion players can and do make a living at these games. casino players do not.

The size of the cut varies from place to place. At the one in my city, they take 10% of the pot up to a maximum of $8 which is nothing if the pot is large enough.

that kind of money adds up very quickly for most players, and they can easily avoid it by playing private games

besides, you can't deal with cheaters at casinos the same way you can in private games, allowing players to be taken advantage of very easily.

They aren't actually paying that money every pot though. There aren't any antes, just the small and big blinds and the dealer just subtracts 10% from the pot at the end of the hand.

Think about the amount of surveillance and security that casino's have...yeah.

i think you're ignoring the whole point of this thread

the vast majority of people who play dice or slots games seriously are those who are under the illusion that "winning streaks" exist in games, or that after five heads on a coin you are more likely to get a tails. they also believe that by placing a large number of steadily increasing bets they will eventually win back all of their money over time, such as in the Martingale system. both of these assumptions are totally wrong. they end up depositing their savings into chips, bid off more than they can chew, and invariably end up going bankrupt

without people like this casinos would go out of business

No I actually agree with you.

I'm just pointing put that it is possible to actually win money at casinos through poker and that's because it comes at the other players expense not the houses and there is more room for skill as opposed to other games of chance.

Gambling bores me to death. I went to the casino once and the racetrack once. I will never go again. Actually I got lucky at the slot machines. But then lost all I won in some stupid poker machine. No biggy. I planned to lose the original 60 dollars anyway. It was just a time out.

don't be dumb. you can easily win money at casino's. Of course, the odds are always in favor of the house (excluding games like poker where the house doesn't actively play), but in any single game, the odds of you winning aren't all that bad. It's when you start compounding games, and calculating the odds of winning several times, that's when you get into trouble. No one goes into a casino and plays only a few games. They usually play a ton. And they most likely come out down. That's because they've wagered the same money several times at losing odds. If you do it once or twice, the odds of winning aren't terrible.
