Right, so, most of you will know what these are. If you don't they're basically what're used to make tier 3 weapons (which give you ATB +1/your 6th ATB segment).
They're either dropped by Adamantoises, Adamantortoises and the Long Gui types or can be bought from the R&D Depot for a whopping 2,000,000 gil.

Anyway, on my most recent run of XIII, I decided to try and Death an Adamantoise and then see if I could farm them after that, I did and Death worked on the second casting. (lucky inorite)
So I carry on killing them after some weapon upgrading (Using Sazh's method) and I get a Trapezohedron drop along with a few Platinum Ingots. (sell for 150,000 gil)

So I was thinking, wow, that's pretty rare to get them that quickly, I was kind of lucky there. I only needed one though as I planned to duplicate and/or triplicate that one.

However, as I continue farming them I find not another two, or three, but another 6. This wasn't obviously all at the same time but I did get two one after the other. (I was using the Connisseur catalog too)

I was just wondering though, has anyone else had this much luck or close to it? I was just wondering how rare that must've been.
Not only do I have enough for everyone to have one plus a spare now, I don't have to triplicate them saving me about a few million gil in the process.

So, anyone else have any similar events/stories concerning this rather rare item?

Traps have been a different story for me. I've always had the collector's catalog equipped on one of the people in my party. The first I got doing from what you did, the death trick on the adamantoise in Leviathan plaza. The very first time i tried it on him I got a trap. I did it about 20 more times on it though and nothing. After that, I moved on to the Long Gui, and while they took longer to take down, I had better luck getting the traps, as I got 2 more with this method.

I read somewhere that Adamantoise have like a 1% chance of dropping a trap and Long Gui have a 5% chance of dropping them. I'm sticking to the long gui method, I'm just too impatient to death trick the Adamantoise in Leviatian plaza...walk up and defeat all the soliders in that hallway to charge my ATB gauge, go back through the doors, rinse, repeat. To me, its easier to farm the long gui in Gran Pulse.

I think you're right there, but don't forget that getting a 5 star rating increases rare item chances by 5 times, along with me using a Connessieur Catalog (upgraded Collectors Catalog using mnar stone) which also increases rare item drop rate, that would've helped somewhat too.

Adamantoises have about a 16 minute target time and Long Gui are about 24 minutes I think, so if you have a decent party it won't be that hard to get a decent rating. :hmmm:

I've got 2 from Deathing them, but, I'm having problems finding the adamantoises now, because I've completed mission 51.

But yeah, this is the best way of getting them unless you make one of the ultimate weapons, whcih I think breaks down into 2 trapezohedrons and 300,000 gil worth of other stuff.

Most of the time I do manage a 5 star rating on them and I think i can finish them off in about 14 min....but you really have to have the absolute right set up to be able to take them out...otherwise I do end up using a summon at the end because the long gui will get back up with a sliver of health. I have genji gloves on all of my characters, kaiser knuckles as well.

Theres also a technique that involves having Vanille as your lead and switching between relentless assault or cerberus and the devastation paradigm (With vanille as the sab and the two others as commandos) and casting death on the long gui and switching to relentless assault or cerberus BEFORE the death spell hits to cause some pretty decent damage. Doing that has actually helped me to take down a lot more long gui. I had a connessieur guide but for whatever reason, I think it hindered more than helped because I had both equipped for awhile and it didn't help me find any more traps. What did help was saving that accessory slot for kaiser knuckles or genji gloves to increase their strength and take the long gui down faster.

Ah yeah, I know of the Death trick, i've used it a few times in the past myself. XD
I only have one Genji Glove atm and that's on Fang, but at a decent stagger percentange and the Cerberus Paradigm Highwind takes the legs down in one go each, but it's still tricky when they follow Ultima with stomp or worse, Roar.

In the long run I'm not sure which would be the fastest method, farming Long Gui or the original Adamantoises for Traps. :hmmm:
It's always nice even if you just get a Platinum Ingot though.

To get my Trapezohedrons I had the most luck ever. At first they were so hard to get because of the 1% drop rate which sucks a whole lot. I snapped on a conisseur catalog and one day I got 1 Trape after another. So I got 6 and was so happy. I stopped after 6 though. I have 100% in this game and I feel it was kinda hard at first for the Trapezohedrons. I think its based on pure luck really. Some of us get lucky some of us do not... You can always upgrade the dragon lance to level 100 and dismantle it to get 3 trapezoherdons but IMHO its a WASTE. This wa sthe most part that pissed me off in the game. Getting 1% drop items ...

I had a spurt going to where I found 4-5 Trapezohedrons every 20 runs of the Adamantortoise mission. Now I'm lucky if I even get one, I haven't gotten a Trapezohedron in a week, hell maybe 2 weeks. Thankfully I still have 6 in my inventory.

The death trick, never ever worked for me. I got it to work 2 times, and I tried atleast for 3 hours. Pausing, restarting, trying again, failing again. Drove me up the fucking wall. I now adapted to the method of Fang as leader, followed by Lightning and Vanille. Start out in Rapid Growth, use Protect and Haste on Vanille. Shift over to Tri- Disaster and stagger the leg to about 450 or so, switch to Discretion(Com, Med, Med) and use Highwind. Repeat the process(minus using Rapid Growth). Then I switch to Espionage(All sabs) and inflict Imperil, Deshell, and Deprotect on the Adamantortoise. Switch to Tri-Disaster and drive the gauge up to 850 or higher, then switch to Cerberus(all Com's) and kick his ass.

Kudo's to ppl that get death spam to work.

I must have killed at least twenty Toises through Death, and I only got a handful of Ingots and no Traps. I'd been continually farming the Eden Toise because apparently it's easier to farm.

I'm considering going back to Pulse to try my luck there because I'm getting seriously bored in Eden.
