I always hear about FF6 being the best 2-d final fantasy game overall. Does anyone else think that FF5 should get more praise than it has?

Well FFV is my favorite old FF game as far as gameplay goes. I do hold FFVI in higher regards to it though because well... its obviously a bigger improvement over V in many ways. But FFV wasn't bad or anything, its a really good game... FFVI just happened to end up being better <_<

i think that ff5 should recieve more praise than what this game was currently credited for before.

I actually prefer both IV and V to VI, but that's just me...
None the less, the extent to which both IV and V are ignored ( or at least not as talked about ) seems quite unfair to me, it's almost as if VI is the second fanboys favourite, eclipsing everythin prior to it, much like VII seems to do to the modern ones.

I absolutely love Final Fantasy V and all it had to offer. Sure it deserves mroe credit. However, I think the fact of the matter is, far less people have played FFV than FFVI since FFV was not released on the SNES outside of Japan. Basically, most had to wait until FFV hit the Anthology Compilation or the Advance version as of late.

I like V, but like Bustamo said, not many people have played it. It had the disadvantage of not being released on the SNES. And since newer and flashier games are coming out, this one has just been ignored by most of the fanbase.

It's a shame though. I think Faris is one of the most unique FF characters.

i think that yes V should get more credit but no it shouldnt be more popular than VI. Most of the old school games prior To VI have been overlooked which is a shame BUT VI was the one which had the first complex storyline and memorable Villain which to me V did not have.

I like V, and I hear they were planning to release it but it got cancelled in post production for work on FFVI.... I couldn't stand VI when I first played it, too many characters and it seemed like they were trying to develop them all at different times, it got a bit confusing.... FFV as far as I've played was more innovative simply in the fact of the job system that was "introduced" I love the experimentation factor of it.

I couldn't had said it better myself. I totally agree with you

Final Fantasy V is better than Final Fantasy VI in every single aspect except music... the music for FFVI is just amazing. It might be my favorite in the entire series. But yea, as far as gameplay, characters, boss battles, and just general plot go it is definitely pretty amazing. I really enjoyed it a lot.

At first FFV started out well. There were some good plot twists (Even though I originally thought Farah was a girl so I wasn't surprised at all) and it all looked nice. But then later on, the plot twists became too forced and they were cheesy, such as how almost everyone turned out to be from a different planet and al that. And as for 'X-Death', well that wasn't exactly creative was it?
I think FFVI is one of the best FF's so far, and far outstrips V

Well it's originality is one thing, and the hilarity is another, as well as the plot twists today's Final Fantasies fail to observe, that makes it a really good game.
Though, FFVI is awesome as well, in terms of a really good storyline, good gameplay and good music.

In other words, they both rock.

I definitely think FFV should get more praise than VI. I agree to all here who said so. I love everything about FFV. Though some things isn't as cool as the other FFs have like the villain, it's still good enough on its own. What I really love about V is it's traditionality(the crystals, the job system) which makes it very deserving to be called 'final fantasy'. FFVI is the first game in the series that attempted to make changes like its more modern world right? It's just that I wasn't too pleased with its ending. It made me thought that FFVI was only created to challenge the developers in animating as technology advances. But what I like in 6 is its music, graphics, the relic system, and some characters like Kefka, Terra etc.. ^_^

yeh i reackon FFv should becasue it reminds me of all these old ps1 games 1 some reason that i really like and i like the game pla of FFv

i think V should get more credit because it was a very good game, but IMO it definitely doesn't deserve more praise and popularity than VI. VI was a lot more unique of a game and i think square did a great job with it because it was kind of a risk to stray away from the crystals and all that. but it was all in all the better game IMO.

I completely that V is overlooked. It is my favorite because it is like an updated version of III. That being said, the battle on the bridge (first battle with Gilgamesh) has to be my favorite song ever. Aztec Triogal, you have a point, but you can't tell me that it is not a good song.

V definitely deserves more credit that it gets. It was the second one I played (although it may have been the first because when I got to certain areas the first time I played it I had massive feelings of deja-vu) and it has one of the best storylines in the series. The music is awesome too.

I didn't think FFV was all that great...In fact, I ended up liking the previous incarnation of the Job Class System, FFIII a bit more...FFV's easy out, the Bare & Mime Class was a bit overpowered & easy to obtain. The storyline was boring & pretty much done in previous FFs...and the characters were lackluster except for Galuf's death scene, which was great, but then he's replaced by a nothing character with all of his abilities...Faris' story was kind of neat, but it wasn't really thoroughly explored (like most of them)...

It was a nice try, but both FFIV & FFVI were far superior.

I think it deserves more credit too. IT probably only gets the credit it does because other FF games like VII are so overrated, (don't get me wrong, I liked FFVII) and people are paying more attention to them, that FFV doesn't get as much credit.

Can't say I like it over VI but I do like V alot and agree it doesn't get so much praise as it should do.

Infact I think its one of the most involving FF's, especially of that era at least. Depending on how you play the game it can be either easy or hard, the alot of the bosses actually need strategy to get past them easily, it has Blue Magic that is pain in the arse to find and actually usefull, little novelies such as catching monsters and releasing them el'summon stylie, the summons (like Titan and Golem) were actually usefull enough to use on a regular basis...I could go on.
The story is a little half-baked yes but nevermind.
