Hi,

I am a Newbie and would like to play Final Fantasy XIV, but this is not the only Online game that i have played. I just want to ask if this game have hacking policies? I know that it's the player's responsibility to secure his account. But i am just curious because hacking is one of the concerns of every MMORPG players. :)

I've never been concerned about hacking when it came to an MMO. What exactly are you up to?

I was hacked before while playing MMO, i would just like to ask what will the GM's or their customer support will do if they receive a hack case or report. If they have any policies regarding that, at least that would make me feel secure when playing their games. :)

There's not much anyone can do if your account gets hacked. But here are some simple ways to keep from getting hacked...

1. Don't click or go to any of the links posted in-game or on the forums. Even if they say they are a GM or a Mod.( this goes for if you get an in-game whisper asking for your password as well. Don't be an idiot and fall for it.)
2. Only install add-ons from a trusted site.
3. Don't share your account. Don't even tell anyone what your username is.
4. Actually have a password that someone can't guess.
5. Don't buy in-game money or items.

You're well on your way to not getting hacked now.

Edited for safety.

Actually those advices will really help a player to prevent their accounts from being hacked. But i would just like to inquire if Final Fantasy XIV have policies regarding those reports. Or how will they deal if someone reported a hack case. ^_^

FFXIV isn't out yet (except maybe for the alpha testing), so we can't really know for sure. I imagine that there will be some policies somewhere - it sounds like a wise kind of service.

I'm not an MMO player, so I'm not really familiar in this area though. :hmmm:

During my later years of playing FFXI there was a lot of account hacking going on due to the price that gil was being sold for online. SE did put into effect both a proactive approach to prevent hacking (more stringent encryption methods on playonline) and also when someone did get hacked they could track the transaction, get your items back, and then remove the items from the player that was given the item.
In order for this to have worked you needed to have an approximate time range for the hack (day this to day this for example, smaller time frames given mean you get your stuff back faster). It was usually pretty easy for GM's to spot suspicious activity as far as was the item sold immediately after the trade, and things of that nature.

So to sum that up I would guess they will take an approach similar to this one, learning from their mistakes in FFXI in this, and hopefully other areas as well.
