I've had my job for about 1 month now. I'm a bartender and a waitress at a local bar/restaurant. It's quite convenient, really, as it's RIGHT across the street from my apartment.

I recently found out that I will not longer be working many hours as a bartender because they just hired their niece. This is extremely frustrating. I made a lot more money at the bar and worked less hours. Not only that, but I absolutely HATE the waitressing portion of my job.

As a waitress, I only make $24 a day + tips. The restaurant doesn't get much business, so I'm lucky to come home with $40 total for a 6 hour shift. That adds up to approximately $6.67 per hour... Lower than minimum wage.

I attended two years of college, my major was business. I have been a store manager, assistant manager, customer service supervisor, and lead game master. Waitressing is far below my typical employment status... Not only the pay, but the work itself.

What's worse? I've been threatened twice now that I will get fired. Why? Because I am incapable of writing a straight line on a white board. I'M BLIND IN ONE EYE! OF COURSE I AM UNABLE TO WRITE A STRAIGHT LINE ON A WHITE BOARD THAT IS HANGING ON THE WALL! Not only that, but I just got accused of taking another waitresses change. I didn't even see this change let alone take it.

Honestly, I really just don't know that I can tolerate it any longer. The unfortunate thing is though... I don't have transportation to change my job. I would have to find a new job that is also nearby. There are no buses or taxi's around here.

So... What to do? Quit and hope for the best? Try and stick it out? I don't know if I can continue to be accused of theft or threatened due to something beyond my control... let alone barely make $400 a month. But at the same time, I'm not sure that my Husband's income will be enough to support us both.

Some of us can't get jobs for shit, the state of affairs recently. If it's 'beneath you' quit. If you can't afford to quit, then it's clearly not beneath you if you can't get another job elsewhere, money is money however you make it. Just suck it up and try to look for another job/wait til something pops up nearby

I don't mean to sound harsh and it sucks that you are getting accused of summat you are not doing, you just need to put it into perspective, a shitty job is better than no job, right? especially if you need the money :ness:

Or just quit the waitressing and keep what few hours you have as a bartender and see how you get on like that if it's that bad at the other job

Honestly, I have to disagree with you here. Having no job is much better than having a job with shitty pay and having to take that kind of verbal abuse. That kind of verbal abuse is not worth the money.

Yeah, I did just say a job like that isn't worth your time and effort. And if the economy wasn't shit and unemployment wasn't so high, I'd say just get out of that job ASAP. Unfortunately, due to the economic nature, I'd say you may actually have to bite the bullet and hang on for a little while. I would definitely keep a watchful eye of jobs in the area, and see if you can at least land something that won't give you verbal abuse. Even a simple retail job at this point would be a lot better, even if the pay isn't there.

Anyways, hang in there, cheer yourself up and best of luck in your job search!

Thanks guys.
I just applied at the local Wal-Mart as well as a gas station nearby. I'm hanging on to the job for the time being... well, I'm going to try to at least. .___.

I had this problem at the beginning of the year.

I had a full time job (like I've always had) and I was going crazy nearing the end. I was there for three years straight and near the end I was getting bullied and two girls in particular were trying to frame me with stealing money as I dealt with the money side of things usually.

Anyway nearing the last month I was so desperate to leave that I didn't care if I had no job to go to. I just preferred to keep my sanity over money. =/

Though I stuck it out and continued until the end of the month during which I was taking interviews for another job. Thankfully I got the job and left right before I went crazy.

I think that you can stick it out considering you don't have full time hours. I was putting up with constant harassment 40+ hours a week for the last 6 months of that job before I finally left. If I can do it anyone can. :gasp:

I feel your pain, but I think that you may have it a tad easier seeing as you won't have to see them every day, or at least as many hours.

You'll at least get time to breath and clear your head a bit better before going into your next shift.

Good luck with it all. And to be honest, during these times, you really need to take what you can get when it comes to work. Stick it out and apply at as many places as you can.

I applied everywhere I could find when I wanted to leave. >_<

That's great! I wouldn't be surprised if you did land the Wal-Mart job, considering the holiday's are coming up and they'll be hiring to cover for the increased business. But as I said earlier, no matter what you get, it's got to be better than your current job, and I hope it all works out for ya!
