I'm going to buy myself a PS3 sometime soon could someone tell me what models are backwards compatible?

Only the 60 gig one as far as I'm aware, which has been discontinued I think...least we can't buy them new over in merry England anyway ¬.¬

You can play certain games, just not qall of them, I think theres a list of game compatability somewhere....although you don't have memory card slots in the 40 & 60 models so Im stumped if I know how that one would work out

Yeah, I have a 60GB one (replaced the old HD for a 120GB one though. xD) and it uses internal memory cards for PS1/PS2 games, out of all my games the only one it wouldn't play was FFVIII, other than that my other 30/40+ games worked.

I think they've stopped doing them but you can find them if you look carefully. ;D

About the internal memory cards, it just creates like a memory card replica onto the PS3's HD and it saves to there.
You can buy an extension to plug memory cards in/transfer data too fairly cheap. (I got one for £10 :gasp:)

You can't buy them anywhere, unless on eBay or some such...once Sony changed to the 80GB PS3 they removed the backwards compatibility engine. :gasp: So yeah, you aren't going to be buying them at the store, at least.

So yeah, the 60GB model is the one that's backwards compatible, I wish you luck in finding one. :monster:

Try searching for preowned ones, when I had to replace mine I got a preowned 60 gig which still had backwards compatibility. (plays stuff like FF5, Rogue galaxy, FF12 etc just fine) so that would be a great way to look for them if you want more guarrantee of a backwards compatible PS3.

You just had to set up the internal memory card XD

As for backwards compatability, I'd search ebay or Amazon, somewhere like that, or possibly preowned ones in game or electronic stores, though I can't imagine they'd be that easy to find going to the store itself. But yeah, they've stopped selling the 60GB models here in England, I know Jess bought an 80GB MGS4 PS3, but I think that may have been limited edition so it'd be hefty on the price if you found one. Although, if Jess is selling hers you might actually want to ask her about pricing. :monster:
