Great swirling ball of colors

I've tried fighting Ozma a few times, but getting so close to victory a few times, I find my final surviving character receives a status effect that incapacitates him and wham!...I lose.

Have you beaten him?

Yeah i have beaten him. It was rock solid but after i had met up with all of the wired monsters that want Ore and Diamond and what not, you can use physical attack on it so i pounded on it:)

I used :
Zidane Lv 71
Quina Lv 66
Steiner Lv 68
Amarantl Lv 68

With Amarant i used Aura alot and a few attacks
Quina used Mighty Guard and attacked
Steiner repeatidly used Shock
Zidane then pumeld him with attacks and he also used alot of cureing items aswell

Yeah see, I think that's my problem. My Zidane and Steiner are still at level 50-60 or so, but the rest are in the 40's and Ozma just pulls off an ass-load of moves that dick up my characters pretty hard. I'll just level a bit more. I've completed the game in 2002 so it's been a while and I'm on the same save file. I did do all the freindly creature sidequests, but Ozma is still a Bitch to face at times.

Take your gold chocobo to Ville Island and fight the Yan's you will LV up in no time. Yeah Ozma has to ubber powerful moves bit if you LV up your players a bit more you'll be fine
 
I have yet to encounter Zozma. lol.
I want my characters stats to be ALL maxed out first. ^_^

And Zozma's name was in Legend of Legaia too. <3

I've noticed a lot oof things in FF9 from Lengend of Legaia. The mist, Terra, Ozma, and the Iifa tree of life reminds me a lot of the Genesis Tree.

ozmas more of a random guy
his only threats are meateor and curse :(
if you have ribbons equipped it should be easier

i fought him level 100, it was still tough though, but not that hard:D
yeah i think i also used ribbons or something,,
 
yeah i did it without the stupid frendly monster quest :(
i just threw wingedges
cast shock and zidane used solution 9 and vivi casted flare :)
 
You just gotta keep trying... Oh and your characters should be about lvl 80. I used Zidane, Amarant, Eiko and Garnet. If you keep casting Amarant's aura on Eiko to give her auto life, when the rest of the party dies, she can summon Phoenix and revive them all. This was a greta tactic and helped a lot. You will need to un-mini Amarant and Zidane if they do get mini cats on them, and then use Zidane's attack and throw Wing Edges with Amarant. Zidane's Trance commands are really useful, once again you just need to make sure you don't have mini on or they will be ineffective. Use Garnet to heal, and make use of Eiko's Full Life if there's only one character KO'd. And summon Odin repeatedly. Other than that, it's mostly down to luck and not panicking! Hope that helps...
 
Yeah I'll get my characters up a few more levels and give him another shot.

Also to those who ahve mentioned fightign against the Yans, I'll give them another shot as well. Last time I ran into one though, they Royaly paved my ass over. However, to be teh best you gotta beat the best, so I'll give it another try here soon.

lv 60+ is a good start to beat him :)

what's that stupid friendly monster quest??? are those things the one that asked for something and gives exp or gil?

a friendly tip:D use garnet summoning technique, use Odin, w/ an addstat effect of sleep and death:D

equip her w/ haste or something that will make her to attack first every battle

the instant death works somehow around 90%, but in times it doesnt works, the addstat+sleep will give you time to summon again:D i forgot the proper setting of the weapons, but i'm sure you know it since you already played it. enjoy

oh you give the frendly monsters gems and they help you against ozma
when you fight ozma after the quest you can do close range attacks
 
trust me its not worth it since you use up your precious gems :(
and you can beat ozma pretty easily without it ^_^
 
I'm proud to say that I have beaten Ozma WITHOUT completing the friendly monster sidequest. (I scared off the ghost by Treno, and he never came back:P ) He was a bastard to beat. My whole party died three times, but luckily for me, I had 99 Phoenix Pinions in stock, so the Rebirth Flame always came into effect. That's why i wish that Mega Phoenixes were made in this game instead of X.
 
I've beaten him with levels between 50-60 (Zidane, Amarant, Dagger, Steiner), and the friendly monster quest I hadn't started it yet. I just made the Trance bar specific, so when Ozma uses Curse someone would go Trance, attack Ozma in Trance and then heal the party.
Shock gave the hell of a trouble to use, it's hard whrn it deals 111 HP damage
 
So I turned on FFIX last night thinking I was going to face Ozma and see if I could finally pull off the victory, but I realized I had never faced a Yan (unfriendly) in battle. So I went there to leve up my party. Ha!

I went into the battle with Zidane, Steiner, Dagger, and Amarant vs. 3 YANS!

The funny part is that by the time I got to eliminating the first 2 Yans, everyone except Amarant has been "snorted" away and blown out of battle. So basically it was Amarant vs. this last Yan. He took him out with a few hits and Amarant gathered 125,000+ EXP points, my most every for one character in any FF game. He went from Level 63-65. I Loved It!

Ozma's just around the corner, I promise. :D Need at least one more ribbon I think just to be safe.
