I just fired up my old Super Nintendo a few hours ago and started playing Donkey Kong Country. Just hearing that theme song melody clinging in my ears brought me way back in time. Back in the days when you had to look through game magazines to find cheats and how you and your buddies buzzed on how close you were to beat that one game. And the best theme songs ever made could only be heard by pausing the game. I wouldn't have traded those days for anything.

Anyone else shrugging their shoulders over the Nintendo Entertaining system, SNES? Or are you all BRAWLING on the Wii?

I wish my Sega megadrive still worked sooo much, if it did I would probably just play it all day. :(

I prefer the old games too though, I still play things like Parodius, Frogger, Rayman and CTR on my ps1, and Pokemon Blue, Mulan, Donkey Kong et cetera on my GB Colour. (Parodius, btw, has the most amazing soundtrack ever :wacky:)
I just generally prefer these games, they're simple but sweet. And they don't need to rely on fancy graphics and effects to be good like some games these days. <_< And there's also lots of nostalgia in there too, playing the games which I used to play when I was about 7 or whatever. x)

Edit: Damn, this was for SNES? D: I never had one of them, but I think my post is still valid. >_> Same principle rly.

Well I don't have a wii but my good old Snes. :D
I like to play the good old games like:
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore
Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2
Super Mario World 1

Because of your title I thought I read something like "the old games were the best" or "the games in this generation aren't nothing if you image them with the old games" but you wrote this a little bit in this way. Well it is good because what I sometimes read in youtube. o_O Sometimes I think all hate the games in our time, but they forget that we were children and musn't thought about so much things like family, live and so on. We were just children without problems but I think this theme is a other theme, or? That means is the tilte for such themes? I don't know.^^'

But yes, it was a magical time and we searched in magazines after cheats, tipps, new games and so on as well, but then there was the internet. ;) And how much I played a game to see the scene x or hear the music x, but now, again, I think about the Internet. :D

I wish my SNES didn't break down either. I only had the one game, Super Mario World 3, and I never got very far D=

But I've moved onto Sony, although I still love Nintendo. If my system was working right now (and, uh, I can find it wherever I put it >_>) I'd start it up again :3

I could've sworn I saw PS1 games being mentioned and took that to mean your thread was pertaining to "the good old days of gaming", in general. My mistake: I'll pop it back over. ;)

Yes, but I swear it wasn't supposed to be there ;p

I have an old SNES but it is crippled, poor thing have seen better days. It automatically deletes my games for some reason sometimes. Other than that I have a N64. It might not be such of a veteran just yet but it keeps me going in the Nintendo world.

My snes still works, but the power packs fucked and the ex took the megadrive...which he denies...but anyway thats another story

I used to love playing on my megadrive, to this day that was the best christmas present I ever got, the only game I ever managed to complete was Sonic, the rest just fucked me over. It was so easy getting game over in those damned games, 3 lives never went far. My mother was addicted to Echo, and she never plays games, I couls still quite happily dust of DKC, and the marios and have hours of fun, I think games these days are getting to srs, I miss the lighthearted fun (and in cases extreme control pad head buttinfg frustration) of them days D:

I definitely miss the days of the SNES and NES. I remember going to Walmart with my daddy to look for new SNES games. I even remember when he bought me the SNES,it was a present for Easter. And yes,I still play SNES. I played Super Mario RPG just a month ago. I've been wanting to play Secret of Mana again as well as the Donkey Kong games. I still haven't beaten Donkey Kong 2. I've got so many SNES games, and had one I could not play. It was Yoshi's Safari. I bought it not knowing I had to have a Super Scope, but my husband recently bought me one so now I can play it. ;p

I had never owned a NES until this past Christmas when one of my friends bought me one. I used to play my cousin's NES all the time! Tiny Toon Adventures,Kirby,Barbie,Alfred Chicken, and Paper Boy are just a few of the games Im going to buy for my NES that I have missed playing.

I also own the N64,Gamecube, and Wii. Plus DS and Gameboy Sp. I have a great love for Nintendo. ^_^

But yes,I do miss the old days of SNES and NES.

I'm with Jane, I think the old Nintendo games are much better apart from the odd couple like Zelda which are always great regardless, I just don't get the same thrill with the Wii as I did with say a Gameboy Colour/SP, the old Pokemon games were far superior although Diamond was pretty good, the Nintendo DS has a nice variety of good quality and fun games so I can't fault Nintendo on that but as far as major consoles go I dislike the Wii, I have no inspiration to play and all the Wii Sport/Fitness thing pisses me off that people actually think it'll make you "fit" >.>

In terms of handhelds I like the new ones but I miss the old major consoles >.>

I do ever so miss my SNES. My favorite game I had on there was Super Mario World-that game was the shit. You could get like different colored Yoshi and cool stuff. I can't stand this new direction Nintendo is taking.

never got another nintendo after the n64, I went to sony and xbox (xbox 360 now) I have kept my snes around all these years and I have collected all the old rpgs that I loved from back then
I have secret of mana,
secret of evermore,
final fantasy 3,
earthbound!(i am particularly proud of, haven't let go of it since I bought it when i was 5)
and recently found a copy of chrono trigger.
even have a link to the past and illusion of gaia.

honestly play it more than any other console.. I think its about time I replay secret of evermore and secret of mana

I got my old N64 out the other day. I was playing Goldeneye, Ocarina of Time, and a personal favourite of mine, Yoshi's Story.
Had it for a long while and it's getting quite old now though, so it does take a few tries to get some of the games working occassionally sadly.

I clearly still play all my psone games. When squaresoft was one company and Enix was another.....Those were the times...

I miss the simplicity of the old school RPGs. There wasn't long tutorials, long FMVs, or overly complicated battle systems that got old quickly. And best of all, no cheesy horrible voice acting ;).

Some how, many RPG stories back in the 16 bit days feel more epic than current RPGs. I dunno i feel that in many cases current RPGs focus more on the graphics than the stories to the point that they get a little boring.

My Nintendo 64 broke -__- So I can't play my old games anymore :sad3:

I miss the old days when I first played SSB for the N64. I was a killer with Link and that game just seemed like it was the origin of the series (It was, but I can't describe my feeling about it in words :gonk: )

I also miss playing Bad Fur Day. The game was so funny with the swearing. This one boss used to curse you out each time you hit her and she went off the last time you did xDDDDDD

Yeah, the 'good old days' is right. Games were easier to understand back then, and your head never exploded while trying to figure what to do (or what button to press). It's been so long since I've last taken out my N64 that I don't even know if it still works. But, I think I'll give a try. Talking about it on this thread just brings back so many fond memories.

I miss the day that when super mario 64 was new,it was the best game back then.I had dreams about it and the peach castle gave me curiousity.I was also scared of bowser back then.I miss the old days....
