Is it just me, or does V take the cake for outrageous names? Butz (ok, so it maybe Bartz, but even that is no Cecil or Firion) Zeza, Tycoon, Jackole, The Great Forest of Mua??? And some of the dialouge is equally outrageous: Fwa Ha Ha anyone? Ok, I know that the translations don't always do the words justice, but there seem to be far too many one-liners that just double me over. It is part of my theory that V is meant to be funny, and meant to make fun of itself. Has anyone else noticed this/have any other examples of the nominal hillarity?

I'm actually going through FF V right now, and you've got a point. To me V has always seemed like more of a light hearted game that didn't take itself too seriously. I suppose they didn't want to have another heavy, dark tale between IV and VI.

I think this is the key; V doesn't take itself too seriously. Not that this is a bad thing. Certain films don't take themselves too seriously and it's great. A band may have certain tracks on an album or even a whole album which doesn't take itself too seriously. The cross-dressing pirate is testament to how light-hearted this game really is :p

With FFIV, the emphasis was purely on the characters and the plot, whereas in FFV the emphasis is purely on the gameplay and its wonderful job system. I found it to be a great change of pace to be honest, and having bought the PAL FF Anthologies release, having these two vastly different, yet similar games was wonderful.

As for the actual topic (sorry guys), I didn't actually notice the names being odd whilst i was playing, but looking back, I guess they were kinda funny.
