Okay so FFVII was my favorite game of all time so obviously I bought advent children and then during the credits I find that they've gone and changed Aeris name and I was like OK fine maybe it's just a mistake, i'll let it slide, and then I get KH1 & Kh2 and her name is Aerith in them aswell so will someone please tell me WHAT THE f**K IS GOING ON???

Aerith was the original Japanese name. I don't know what happened with FFVII in the US. If the name got translated wrong or what-not. But it is originally Aerith.

The proper name is indeed Aerith. The reason why she is called Aeris in English versions of FF VII is due to a translation error.

Heres a quote from wikipedia that should help clear things up:

Aerith is often referred to as "Aeris," due to translation issues. The problem may have originated due to the fact that the foreign sounds "s" (as a stand-alone consonant) and "th" are both represented in Japanese syllabary by "su" (ス), or it may have been a deliberate aesthetic change on Sony's part. However, as of English translation of Kingdom Hearts, the spelling "Aeris" is only used in games comprising the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.
"Aerith"—and, consequently, "Aeris"—is a Japanese transliteration of the English word "Earth" (confirmed by the Final Fantasy VII: Kaitai Shinsho guidehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerith_Gainsborough#_note-kaitai). In katakana (the Japanese syllabary used for words that are not of Japanese origin), the name is written as "Earisu". Syllables in the Japanese language are normally open, that is, they normally end in a vowel ("n" being the only consonant allowed in syllable codas; thus, the "i" after "r") and the Japanese language has no "th" sound, instead using "su". It became "Aeris" as a result of writing it in romaji (Latin characters representing Japanese sounds) to represent how it sounds when spoken in Japanese ("Air-rees").

LOL, I'll leave this one up the Aerith-chan, as I know she will be replying once she see's this thread.

The proper spelling for her name is in fact Aerith. That is how it is stated in the Reunion Files, how it is in the credits to the voice actors in Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts I and II and on most Japanese Websites. Her name however is pronounced Air-ris and I believe they just spelled it Aeris in the game to begin with because that is how it's pronounced. Her name is Aerith and it will always remain that. It still sounds the same, but the proper spelling is Aerith with a TH at the end and not an S.
