So this is news to me. A new street fighter movie, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, is set to be released next year in February.
So I take it this is like an X-Men Origins: Wolverine type of thing. They just take a character from the game/ comic book series w/e and focuses on their life story.
So here's what we know about this new movie (taken from firstshowing.net):

A handful of new photos from the set of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li have just been posted on the Legend Films website. Not only do we get to see additional photos of Kristin Kreuk as Chun-Li, but we get our first look at Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog and a few of the locations they're shooting at. Previously, we only had one official photo of Kreuk so this is the first time we've been able to see her "in action" with others on set. There's not enough in these photos to actually start making judgments about the direction of this movie, because looking at these alone makes me think it could be pretty good. My only hesitation is with Michael Clarke Duncan, but maybe it's just a bad photo. Thoughts?
We've posted six of the photos below, but you can take a look at a few more over on the official website. These photos look pretty cool, but that's probably just because the filmmaking process is mesmerizing. However, I don't think any of these are going to convince anyone that Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li could actually turn out good? I'm still crossing my fingers, though…
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is being directed by ex-cinematographer Andrzej Bartkowiak, of Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, and Doom. The script for this was penned by up-and-coming screenwriter Justin Marks, who also penned screenplays for Masters of the Universe and Voltron. Hong Kong fight choreographer Dion Lam, who previously worked on The Matrix Trilogy, Spider-Man 2, and all of Bartkowiak's previous films, is handling the fight sequences. Fox currently has Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li set to arrive in theaters on February 27th, 2009.

It's really a shame that (non-animated) video game movies=fail...I also don't get why the whole M. Bison/Balrog/Vega thing hasn't been fixed in any of the English releases of the SF games...but w/e, that's a minor annoyance, really...

Kirsten Kruek = Epic fail.

This movie doesn't even have RYU or Ken in it. It is going to suck... plain and simple XD

I wouldn't mind watching this. I like Kristen Kruek and even though the cast of characters (SF) are kinda lacking, that's alright. Chun-Li always did appeal to me and to see a movie made about her character would be worth it.

Only a few more months away!

it sounds awesome but personally all the movies died after street fighter 2 the animated movie... like alpha, i mean the story ended jeez! get over it! That doesn't mean you make another one!

^ You would make another one if it'll help promote the newest Street Fighter game which would be due out a month of so after and possibly vice versa in a way.

Despite being a SF mark I think this'll stay on my 'to avoid' list.

Hello, are you new? This is the world as created by CAPCOM!

I wonder if chun li will have really thick legs

Kristin Kreuk doesn't have 'em...so, unless, idk...they put her in some kind of leg fat suit (???) I don't see it happening...I seriously even wonder if we'll get to see her in her traditional outfit or not...But not even her Alpha outfit was really revealing, so maybe she'll do it...
