Very strong, very easy boss. Very simple way to disrupt his entire little mini-world thing he's got going on.

A Message To The Mods:
I know there's already a thread about Ozma and a lot of this information, I already posted in it, but before you close it, MistWalker, people can easily over-look my guide in that thread, and I saw at least half of the people in that thread were saying things along the lines of how hard he is and how they've never been able to fully defeat him, nothing but heart ache stories, seems like the people need a good solid guide to easily defeat Ozma. So this thread serves a great purpose to anyone who thinks Ozma is even slightly unmanageable.

Okay, on with the royal smack down that YOU are about to lay onto Ozma awfully. (By the way, save before you battle him, so if you get a weak Ozma card from Mene you can beat him again in another three or four minutes and see if that one is any better.

Equip your members with Egoist's Armlet, if you're using Freya or Steiner, equip the demons mail. You should have two pumice pieces if you have not already found your way over to Hades and synthesised them together to get Sara's ultimate summon, Ark (You shouldn't go to Hades yet anyway because if you defeat Ozma before Hades, you get to witness a short instance of Hades being a little girl, considering backing out of the fight you have to go through to unlock his shop.)

Best idea would be to give Zidane one of them because he is the man and most likely your highest level character: Hence, best for ressurecting/keeping people alive in the toughest situations. Give the second one to Sara or Eiko, whichever healer it is that you use. Equip the other two that didn't get the pumice pieces with the Ribbon, now you should have four characters that are either immune or absorbing shadow and holy damage, which is all Ozma really has.

Make sure you have Auto reflect on EVERYONE (Cant stress this enough, people. Seriously. Do it, do it. If you have Vivi and can afford it use the reflect x2, it's good if you're lower level to make sure that you're sending back maximum damage) To repel his goofy status effects (I HATE status effect heavy enemies.) Equip your healer with Refelct-Null to get curaga past the reflect barriers up, and auto regen, as you'll be spending alot of time watching cutscenes of you and Ozma sending doomsday and holy back and forth at each other for quite a while, giving you a stunning head start in health. Add in the eidolons and Ozma's pretty screwed, isn't he? Put return magic on somebody so that he doesn't get away with healing half your characters and doing nothing to the other half scott-free. Make him pay.

I beat Ozma the first time I ever battled him in three minutes flat. I was only mostly around level 40 and none of my characters took any damage, let alone died.

Ozma is all about your equipment to nullify his devastating life threatening attacks, and your abilities to keep his magic and status effects off you, and to keep your health up and send his own crazy power back at him.

That's quite a sweet strategy. I didn't use that exactly, but a slightly altered version of that. You pretty much nailed down perhaps one of the hardest bosses in the FF series.

Awesome stuff!

Thank you. If only there was something that I could do about Meteor, we could completely shut him down without even the tiniest of fight.

Seriously, be weary of the falling rocks from the sky. Meteor does have the power to Game-Over you in one move.

That's kind of how I beat, him, He is easy, but at level 40? How did you do that? Even with auto haste he would attack you about 3 times for every time one of your characters would try to attack... I did him around level 88.

Lol, search youtube for ozma lvl 1

I beat him on level 37 or something, actually, because if you do exactly what I told you to do in this walkthrough, ozma will not be able to damage you with any move of his except meteor, so Ozma damaging me at all is just luck on his part.

I wonder how come the depressing thread about barely defeating Ozma/most people saying that haven't gets more views than the uplifting thread about how to easily slap Ozma in the face.

I couldn't beat him with this strategy, I tried. He just kept fucking me over with meteor and curse, I just did it my own way in the end and got lucky

Wow, that sucks. Meteor is the ONLY thing that he can do to shut that strategy down and he kept doing it to you over and over?

Well, if all else fails (If you didn't get lucky in the end) you could just level up a little, get your luck up (Increase chance of Meteor missing and take less damage when it hits) and pummel him, I believe Meteor was doing around 3,000 to one or sometimes two of my characters, usually it would miss, he didn't really do it that often since I believe it is his counter and I wasn't really attacking him much, due to him killing himself with my return magic.

But, yeah. That sounds personal. Sounds like that particular Ozma on your particular copy of FFIX was PISSED at you and really didn't want to lose. Feels good to stick it to him anyways, doesn't it?

By the way lol, you should search youtube for ozma lvl 1, it's pretty satisfying to watch, not even being the one doing it. I think that's basically where I got most of my strategy for him. Just watching that video and trying to figure out what items and abilities he had that were screwing Ozma over so badly. Feels good.

It was more curse than meteor tbh, it just wasn't working at all. The only thing I did in the end was equip the shadowy equipment. I barely even HAD doomsday used against me. It was usually curse which was an absolute arse hole tbqh

I didn't bother with reflect either, Ozma rarely used mini/beserk to warrant using up all that AP to counter it

Hmm, I actually tried your strategy and it worked quite nicely. Although it didn't work the first tries because he would use Meteor as his opening move and wiped me completely. But when he FINALLY decided to use Doomsday as his first move it was a pretty simple battle. I used Eiko, Amarant, Steiner, Freya and Zidane. The battle went something like this he used Doomsday, Amarant countered with Return Magic. Freya and Zidane used Dragon's Crest and Thievery while Ozma tried to berserk me but he couldn't since I had Auto-Reflect on everybody. Ozma then proceded to used Curaga like 5 times in a row (I still did more damage than he could heal, so I kept attacking with Thievery, Dragon's Crest and No Mercy), and he finally died.

Seems like it's only me that this didn't work for, how bloody typical. Although, that said, I'm glad I did it my own way in the end...even if I DID get lucky....hahaha

Although I followed the armour advice....ok, so Im trying to lie to myself to make myself feel better, I didn't work it ALL out for myself.....I can't believe it wouldn't work for me though D:

<_<

Not if you do it my way and only attack with one person at a time, so you have three people on stand by to automatically do something to counter his attacks - despite his ridiculously high speed, he doesn't take two turns in a row.

I much preferred to do this with a combination of auto-potion (and selling all my potions so only hi-potions were used), auto-regen and auto-haste, the former two working nicely together - since auto-potion takes so long to use, and on four characters, auto-regen restores my health to full after every attack he uses.

I used the same armour strategy as you did, save for the pumice piece on Zidane - I used the demon's vest, I'm sure. I also gave Vivi Return Magic, which helped me twice as much as reflect - Doomsday damaged Ozma and healed me and, with RM, I doubled the effects of this.

I just sat back and let him hurt himself, really. In the one game where he didn't use Meteor straight away, I managed to defeat him. Curse was countered easily with the Clear Headed ability (I didn't equip Antibody, since Regen countered this) and, aside from Death, the only thing to watch out for after that was Mini, since my main attacker was Steiner, with Shock. During a brief spell of inactivity, I'd occasionally spam Garnet's Bahamut (with 99 Garnets in my inventory, might I add). Together, they brought down Ozma relatively easily. :gmonster:

I do like your strategy, though. My HP was on the borderline of being above his maximum damage.

Although it didn't work the first tries because he would use Meteor as his opening move and wiped me completely.
That SUCKS.

And Bambi, the strategy isn't fullproof, because you can't completely protect against everything Ozma does, like Meteor, sometimes you just couldn't win and it wasn't your fault, but generally, he likes to Doomsday the crap out of you, and with the armor set up it does nothing. And with the return magic, it does far better than nothing lol. I had Vivi and Amarant, just so I could have two people returning magic. Ouch.

But there are some things this beastly enemy can do to disrupt your battle strategy, but if you fought him five times, youd probly win at least three with my strategy, provided your particular copy of the game doesn't have an angry Ozma who refuses to sucumb to your armor and counter magic.

My copy OBVIOUSLY had an angry Ozma, it took me 2 days. He hardly ever used Doomsday, even when I won I just got lucky. Meteor only wiped out two of my guys rather than all of them for a change

Lol, I'm so sorry to hear about that. I don't know if I've ever played an Ozma as angry as yours sounds, and I've played a few different copies angry Ozmas. I'm glad you finnaly got the sucker down one way or another, though. Look in the other Ozma thread, there are people cursing his name to the Heavens, because they said they're still yet to beat him. That thread is the reason I posted this one, lol

With FF9 most bosses after disk 2 had programming flaws that if exploited would lead to an easy win.

That is very interesting. Nine is one of the ones I still go back and beat every blue moon. I'd really like to hear about some more of those flaws that lead to easy victories. I've dominated the game so thoroughly that it's fun to do stuff like smash Ozma in his stupid orb. Lol

ozma was one of the worst bosses ever..i dont mean that in a bad way, but he was so hard, i still havent beat hiim, but im gonna use that strat and hopefully beat him.
WOOP
*touch wood*
btw what do you actually get for beating him?

my only problemo with this mo'fo is his freakin' curse casting. He turns every on of my characters into a confused frog with clamydia. Your strategy sounds pretty good, but I'll probably just experiement with my own junk when I get around to beating him.
