Ban Booing?

I don't think that mere booing is a problem, but making personal insults such as racial remarks shouldn't be allowed. Like Rangers fans at Ibrox making monkey noises when a black player of the opposite team gets the ball, it's just disgusting and the fans should be banned from any game. -_-

As far as banning booing goes, what's the point? You may aswell ban people from cheering when their team scores and just have everybody watch the game in silence.

Well...as far as racial remarks is concerned, I don't think anybody is going to disagree with you there, but...can it really be stopped? And then theres the issue about if the comments are really racist(like if a white guy calls all the players [note i said all] monkeys, and a African American player gets offended).

But I do agree, banning booing is dumb, its not going to change anything, people need to grow a pair.

I think it's ridiculous to want to "ban booing" just because some people feel it's distracting or something like a put down--it's tradition. And we can refrain ourselves for the most part. Now I could understand if it got out of hand like throwing things, but this is a bit healthier, less violent way to express discontent with someone you don't like.

These people just need to grow up and realize that they're asking for something that will never happen.

I don't really know how booing affects people in American sports, but in Football, over here in England it probably has more of a positive effect than a negative. If people boo at football matches over here then it just shows the team and players that their performance wasn't good enough and to the standard it should have been, therefore, having paid £95-£600 for a season ticket year-in year-out I feel I have a right to boo if Boro play badly.

People boo Joey Barton as well, but that's a different matter...he's scum >.>

Two U.S Senators want to ban booing from games, because they feel it discourages athletes, and makes them perform worse. In Washington(diff story), they also want to ban booing because its "cruel" from the spectators. What do you guys think?
How absolutely ridiculous. :wacky:

You might as well say that cheering one team louder than the other is biased and gives one of them an advantage.

If the players do well, then they get praised for it. If they do shite, then they get screamed at for it. It's called positive and negative reinforcement and it's just how the world works.

I don't understand how the banning would work, though - are they going to employ separate police, who drag out the people who "BOOOOOO!!!"?

Ban booing you may aswell take away peoples freedom of speech

and booing doesn't make the athletes feel bad and makes their performance worse

look at England vs Croatia England was boo off at half time and yet they won 4-1

and in my view if ya being boo then that should be awake up call to raise your level of performance

What a stupid idea haha, they will ban cheering next because it makes the other team/person whatever feel bad because they arent being booed. Although it is a bit mean, I always feel sorry for performers when they get booed, even if they ARE shite.....

Hardly, they aren't trying to create a law to stop free speech just booing. People are banned from swearing on live TV, that's not taking away freedom of speech is it?

That's not what they are talking about, it's booing the other team, not negative or positive reinforcement.

It's a stupid idea, it's unrealistic, and if people have paid to go to a game, then they should be able to boo other teams. It's one of the reasons why teams like to play at home.

I was curious when that one would be brought up. It's freedom of speech and freedom to protest in a civil manner.
What the fuck is the problem? If it's self-esteem that they're aiming for, then they must be stupid. Focus more on the fourteen year old girls that hate their life. They're the ones with self esteem issues. Sure as hell not professional sports players. They get paid so damn much, I wouldn't give a damn if I got booed at. So many insults come to mind right now...That's ridiculous.

I hope this isn't spewing from that Vince Young's paper think skin. I don't think there should be any reason to ban booing, it's pretty much apart of sports. If you can't take booing then you shouldn't be playing the sport. All it is, is a sound.
It's like how they banned standing up in some of the Football games. Almost like they are trying to ruin the sport all together. Pretty soon while be forced to sit all game and not be able to cheer either.

This is ridic, its like fans cant take part in games anymore. Booing is a form of opinion I believe. not everyone is going to like what you do, so they are intitled to what they think.

No, it isnt nice to be booed at, but you cant have half crowd cheering and the rest just stay quiet with fingers on lips. Silly idea.

Booing's part of sports. The fans should be allowed to express their displeasure with teams/players when they perform or act poorly. Some players may get bent out of shape because of it--some players may use it as motivation to get better. I certainly don't feel that booing should be banned.

Good luck trying to enforce that ban.
