Final Fantasy Tactics (often abbreviated as FFT) is a tactical role-playing video game developed by Squaresoft for the SonyPlayStation. It was distributed in Japan by Square, and in North AmericaSony Computer Entertainment America. It was not released in Europe. by
Combining thematic elements of the Final Fantasy series with a game engine and battle system unlike anything previously seen in the franchise, Final Fantasy Tactics is Square's answer to Quest's successful Ogre Battle / Tactics Ogre series, with which it shares a number of key conceptual and stylistic elements. This is due, in part, to the presence of former Quest staff members in its development crew, including director Yasumi Matsuno, character designer Akihiko Yoshida, art director Hiroshi Minagawa and composer Hitoshi Sakimoto, all of whom had left Quest to work with Square. In stark contrast to other 32-bit era Final Fantasy titles, Final Fantasy Tactics uses a 3D, isometric, rotatable playing field, with bitmap sprite characters.

Final Fantasy Tactics is an awesome game!
The gameplay's great, the classes are good, the storyline's great, the ending's awesome, and even Cloud's playable in it!

I don't understand why this game is underrated.

It's a hell lot better than Final Fantasy Tactics - Advance!

I liked the war story Square introduced in FFT. Kept me interested the whole time. Gameplay is very unique and innovative.

Challenging throughout your entire walkthrough of the game.

Challenging yes, which is one of my favourite aspects of the game.
And there is one uber unfair battle, where you have to protect this girl, and there were two female Assassins with annoying attacks pwning you.

I lost that battle about 6 times! *shakes fist*

Oh yeah, that battle on the roof of Riovannes Castle. On my second walkthrough right now, and I just finished the sequence of battles at Riovannes Castle. Those assassins have some cheap moves, like that instant kill Stop Bracelet.
But the battle before that, where you have to fight Wiegraf and then Velius took me a couple of days to figure out how I would beat him. Wiegraf could kill my Ramza in 3 hits with his Lightning Stab.

This was one of the greatest games. I really liked this games because of the characters and the job systems. And also My favorit character is
Cloud
He was just cool and powerful.

This game was fun. It was different and challenging. I like how you were able to customize your characters. You can make even the weakest job strong and origional.

Yea the jobs were pretty cool exspecially the samurai and the dragoon my 2 favorite classes.

FFT is the second best FF game, the story and plot was beautiful. Yes it was better than FFTA but many game mags said FFTA was better than FFT!! unbelievable..!

yea the awsome.......the secert charater i saw on filter wasent it like number two or one? anyway that game was hard! (i have not played it in a wile...like 2002) i finnaly quit when you have to fight that guy where its just you and him then he summons demons and some people come and help you. yea i finnaly beat him then i had to fight that weird sword guy. i just couldnt beat him. now its too scrtched up to play.>< but yea i wasent really good at that game, so can you guys tell me how to unlock samuri and dargoon.

The Lancer class requires a Level 3 Thief
The Samurai class requires a Level 3 Knight, Level 4 Monk, and a Level 2 Lancer

I believe you're talking about Wiegraf and Elmdor at Riovannes Castle Sephiroth of Darkness. Those 2 had to be the hardest battles, simply because you were stuck in Riovannes Castle without being able to level up, get new equipment, learn new abilities, etc. through random battles. You were stuck with what you already had, and had to make the best of it.

yea thats it. the first guy was hard enough by himself then he summons demons. And your like up there and your reinforcments are all the way down there.><....thanks. i hope ill remeber that when i play it again....

Del's knowledge of FFT is really somethin'. *nods*
I might want to play again.. but that'll cost me a LOT of time, which I don't really have right now...

ANd Simeon's right, that magazine's blind.
How could FFT-A be better than FFT...

I think FFT is definitelly worth another playthrough, especially if you missed key items and abilities like me.(i.e. the rare Genji Equipment and Ramza's Ultima).

Have you guys ever tried the JP Scroll Trick? Well, it's more like a glitch similar to the Duplication Trick. It saved me a lot of time when developing my characters.

ok lets see my ps2 is busted i might be able to get a ps1 and a controler for like 10 bucks. and the fist games ill play on that system will be FFT, FFVll,FFVlll,FFlX, and FFVl

Final Fantasy Tactics is definately better then FFTA. I've played FFT probably more then 20 times now....lost count. Have any of you tried masterin all the jobs? or have any of you seen the final summon at the end of the game? i never got the chance to see it
Final

Wait.. you've played more than 20 times, and you didn't even master all the jobs at any time you played, and you didn't get the final summon from Byblos(sp?) at all?

Wow, Fenrir.. you should play it again, and this time, complete everything!
And you'd better get Cloud's Materia Blade too, and master all his Limits.

Mastering ALL the jobs? Nah, I only master a couple jobs for each of my characters (excluding Ramza). As for the final battle, I did see Altima. Not all that difficult when you have Orlandu on your team.

FFT is better than FFVII in my opinion hands-down. it has an excellent story, gameplay everything! while FFVII can get boring at times FFT remains as exciting as it was when you first put that disck into the PS1 or PS2

Ah, the great Final Fantasy Tactics...this takes me back. This is second only (in my opinion) to my favoured FF game that is Final Fantasy IX. I thoroughly enjoy TRPGs, so it makes sense that I have a great love for this game. It may have borrowed a lot (stolen is a bit harsh) from Tactics Ogre, but I like each game so I think it's a moot point. Hellgate or Deep Dungeon? Bah, just conquer them both and have fun.

The story for this game is excellent, and you progress at a nice pace. I'm usually quite good at making my way through a TRPG, so I didn't find FF Tactics difficult at all. I'd love for there to be a Final Fantasy Tactics II (a real sequel) but I have never liked my chances. One can dream, though. I'll have to put it next to Vandal Hearts III.)

Glad to see that there are a few fans around here of this superb game.
