is it worth me buying a FFXII strategy guide? i am new to FF, ive only played X and XII, im not great at it! im having trouble with gambits, i think im bad at setting them up! thought a strategy guide would/could help! what d'ya think!

You're not the only one having trouble setting up gambits. But really though, gambits aren't even that necessary. The more complex you make a gambit, the harder it is to fight battles. In my opinion, just command your characters like you would in the earlier Final Fantasies.

As for the guides, I would recommend it only once you're near to beating the game, so that you know what you have missed getting, like espers and all those other weapons. Trust me, it spoils a lot of things, guides. You're better off figuring out the game without it. ^_^

You will defiantly need it if you want to get 90% of the items and quests in the game. It has pretty pictures as well :monster:
Although this guide is basically a plot teller it does have useful map on where certain useful chests are.

And you will get used to gambits after a while. They are necessary against ceratin marks like yiazmat and bosses like omega mark 12.

aaah ok! im not struggling or anything to progress through the game! i think im doing ok! im only 30 hrs in though! my team are all at lvls 19 -22 and i just got past the moving wall! the gambits are working fine for me, but i feel i just use them to the bear minimun! if that makes sence, like, really simplistic! i dunno...

oh yeah, the quickenings, confuse me also!

i love the game so much, i want to be good at it!

Oh right lol. Well you will need to start using them when you fight your first dragon. And bloody hell you are a high lv I was like lv 11 when i was up to first demon wall.

Bloody hell indeed. xD

There's another thread referring to Quickenings and how to use them, but honestly, it does get a bit confusing on the first try, and heck, I'm still a novice at it.

As for the guide in terms of this? I think our members can explain it better. xD

is there no gambits you can set that are generally pretty good to use all round then?!

ps, how come next to my forum name, it hasnt got a symbol saying im female?!!!:blink:

Are you a heshe then? Lol i'm joking, you have to go to usercp and say you are female then save it.

And gambits in general that are good: HP>30% ~ best cure spell available.
Against certain bosses and areas you may want to have status effect healing ones. ally any - haste/aga protect/aga, shell/aga, bravery, faith
ally status ko ~ phoenix down/arise/ etc.

I always kept healing gambits on at all times and of course attacks. Green magic like shell and protect are good to have on gambit too. I only used other gambits if they were needed.

thanks for the help guys! im new on here, can you tell! i doubt i will post much

i will just be the annoying user who pops up when she wants to know something right away without searching for a thread ;)

yeah, im cool

I bought the guide; I do for almost every FF game I play.

I aim to get basically 100% of everything in the game on my very first playthrough just in case I don't get around to playing it a second time through. For FFXII though, it's not totally necessary, but it is a big help so you don't miss out on A LOT of things in the game. I recommend getting it.

Dont use gambits. They can do everything you can do on your own and they're a massive waste of Gil and LP. Plus they just take the fun out of the game.

Guides havent been necessary for other FFs, but the Brady Games guide for XII is very useful. If you have the money, buy it, it's a no brainer. However, if you're short on money, you can find a torrent for it like i did (i have the entire guide downloaded on my comp), and this website is also very good: http://www.ff12sector.com/

Well if you don't use gambits then you will have to do everything manually which will become very annoying and repetitive. The gambit are extremely cheap so it wouldn't waste gil, and they don't use up LP anyway.

If you try fighting yiazmat without gambits it'll take at least 10 hours or more.

Playing FF you will need a guide definitely if you dont want to miss out any anything when you play through the game once, after that youll probably have the guide memorized and wont need it for anything unless you want to see what fiend drops what and other things like that

Unless you want to print the guide out online for free, but thats alot of ink

yeah, if you forget all about the gambits and refuse to use them, it just makes the game that much longer as you have to manually go through and make every movement in the game yourself. FFXII went a different route with the constantly active battle system so you have to adjust to fit into its style. Sure gambits wouldn't work with past FF games because they were turn based or ATB in stand-still mode. However, with constant running on the screen and non-stop action, you gotta do what ya gotta do.

i went in my local GAME store and they didnt evem have a FFXII guide! GUTTED!!

i do like using gambits, i just feel like i dont have them set up to an advantage! i dunno, they seem to be working ok, but i think its cos i have my team at highish levels! ;)

By them using LP i was referring to the license points you spend on additional gambit slots.

So not using gambits actually makes that much of a difference? Damn...maybe i should start using them. I just prefer the old school way but crap, i'm not fighting a 10 hour battle.

Oh right, well you need to start using some more complex gambit after you first fight tiamat because from then on the battles become alot harder.
