Inspired by the Fantasy Blitzball thread.

Anyway, I was wondering if the football fans of this site would be interested in running a Fantasy Football league? It'll basically just be exactly how it's run in The Sun, since that's the paper I read, and it's a good common ground for the scoring.

The basic rules of it will be;
  • Your budget will be £50 million.
  • As I'll be using an English newspaper, only players from the English Premiership may be selected.
  • No more than TWO players from any one team may be selected.
  • You must pick a formation of either 4-4-2 or 4-4-3.
  • Scoring will be taken from The Sun newspaper, not decided upon by myself or any other member.
  • There will be two transfer windows for changing players later on in the game, though I'm not sure when those will be yet.
And that's basically it. Of course there are finer points to it, but I want to see how much interest I can get for this before I go full-blown into it. There are already some members who have stated their interest though, and it's looking like it might be a big thing.

I dont exactly know what to do but ill have to start reading the sun eh?

There isn't anything in The Sun about it yet, but it's getting towards the time that registration will open for it.
Basically what you do is pick your own fantasy football team, and they'll score points for various things, like clean sheets, goals and good performances. Whoever comes out on top at the end, wins (obviously).

wait only english premiership players??? hmmm all that talent huh;)
Could u not change some rules allowing spl players.
But im definately interested:)

What about those of us here in the U.S. who follow the E.P.L. through the use of Fox Soccer Channel? And I'm sure none of us can get a subscription to The Sun.

We both know that we're not missing out on anything. :monster:

Anyway, I'll basically be using the player listings from The Sun. It'll be their prices, their players and their scoring system. If SPL players were going to be put in, then I'd have to judge all that myself, which I wouldn't be able to do because I don't keep up on Scottish Football like I do with English.
So it'll be EPL only.

EDIT: Don't worry; you won't need a subscription to the paper. You'll submit your team, and then I'll update the scoring myself, so you won't need to worry about that. They open a website anyway, so you can check that if you really want to.

hahahahah lol a subcription to the sun hahahahaha:lol:

anyhoo what was that pooley sumthin about not missing anything? lol:D

OK i get it. Its sounding like a great idea

Good, a couple more people showing interest and then I'll go into more detail about it all.
Can I assume that that's a yes from you, dimmufan?

People in the US actually watch the Premier League?

Football still isn't terribly popular over there though...such a shame...

@lagunas dream: Everyone knows the Premier League is the best football league in the world :monster:

I would be interested if I new more about what was going on and how it worked. And yes, while soccer is not the most popular of sports, it is my favorite. The E.P.L. is the best league in the world, (better than the Spanish, too). I do follow it as best that I can with the Fox Soccer Channel. They don't televise every game, but I do get to see about 5-7 league fixtures as well as FA cup games per week. Go ManU.

I'm not sure if you know the principal of Fantasy Football, or any fantasy sport in general, but you basically select a team of your favourite players (of course there are limits though) and they score points based on their performance throughout the season.
There are finer points, which I'll go into at a later date.

^%(_)%%!!

I clicked this link thinking it was about American Football/the NFL, and now I'm sadly disappointed.

I need to go punch an emo kid now.

Carry on.

Anyway, The Sun opened up the website for registrations, so I'm going to get this started. Anyone else who wants to join can still do it though.
Visit this page to pick your team. It's pretty simple to do so, the rules for picking are at the top of the page. However, I recommend that you don't submit your final team yet. Give it time, choose carefully. Also, there's likely to be more transfers that will be added and removed from the list. However, I would like all teams to be submitted to me via PM by Wednesday 8th August. So you have plenty of time to think your team over. I'll post up a list of the scoring rules and such closer to the start of the season.

And I do know that the website is slow, it's like that every year, so you'll just have to bear with it.

So i submit my registration on the website?
Or just place my team on here instead?
Gabranth is confused

Just PM me your team when you've picked it. You don't need to register your team with them, that's just if you're playing The Sun's game for the money.
Remember, when picking your team, your budget is £50 million, you can't have more than two players from each team, and your formation must be either 4-4-2, or 4-4-3.

Yes, obviously a goalkeeper. I never put a 1- in front of the formation, because it's obvious that there's going to be a keeper.

And a new rule I just thought would help. If a player you pick is transferred out of the EPL within the first three weeks of the season, you'll be allowed to make a change. Anytime after that, then they'll have to stay in your team.
