Yes, and there's really nothing we can do about it.....sadly, that's the downside of the freedom of speech right.

Considering I'm Fil-Am (half Filipino half American), I get attacked by racial slurs and stereotypes and whatnot. Of course, the stereotypes they give me are either Chinese or Japanese, since these people are completely oblivious to that chain of islands southeast of Japan.
Now, growing up, school was hell for me. Why? I was stuck in a school filled to the brim with white folk who can't seem to accept the fact that one girl in their entire year is half Asian. I moved to a different school for high school. Again, I was shoved into the same scenario. Now, when you have a bunch of jackass pricks constantly bothering and harassing and throwing things at the Asian girl instead of their fellow white peers, I'd say there's still racism thriving in the US.
...but here's the thing...
As long as there are racial differences between humans, they are going to either be edgy or just all-out hate them because these strange-looking people aren't like them. When you have these differences, racism follow suit. Racism doesn't stop at words, ladies and gentlemen. Prejudice remarks aren't all that people are capable of. They know this, so they act as well.

Not really...especially once the whole "American pride" sets in.
Think of it this way...a Caucasian kid sees that someone from, say, Ireland moves into his neighborhood. He starts making fun of him for his stereotype, pokes fun at his accent, and starts telling him to "Go back to your own country!" ...but more than likely, that kid's got some Irish blood in his family tree somewhere.
Unless these people are aware of exactly who is in their family tree, where they came from, and what race they were, they're going to hate everyone who's not like them all the same. Americans nowadays don't quite realize just how many other races are in their family, for they don't bother to look.

Incidentally, the only African girl I ever knew, was white as a leaf of paper...

I don't live in America so I wouldn't know, hence I have not voted. However, I think racism still exists all over the planet and it's not just against black people. ALL races are being discriminated against in some form or another all over the world at some time and in varying levels of harshness. This includes whites. I hate racism and wish it would stop, however people being what they are can make this a little difficult. Racism is a 'learned' trait. If someones parents are racist then the odds are they or one of their siblings will be racist.
Euphemisms are the rage these days.
And that is my point exactly. Well, the blending part anyway.
The fact that people are starting to look so much like each other, most notably, or possibly exclusive to America, is a sign that the 'melting pot' is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing.
Well yes, and of course because there are also too many races in one's own family tree to begin with.
I'm Filipino, but I'm also Chinese, Spanish, and Malay at the same time.
And I think that most people shouldn't do that thing anyway, especially if they have no idea what his/her family background is.
But then again, it's up to the person.
But at the same time, people should realize that this world is no longer the world of yesterday. They should live in the present and realize that this world is a world for everyone, and everyone is different.

I was discussing racism on another site and some people actually believe that, in particular, the American government owes blacks an apology which I wholeheartedly disagree with. What's the point of asking for an apology when you know, A) those who should be saying they're sorry are dead, B) those who should be hearing the apology are dead, and, C) it's worthless? Not everyone is sorry and that'll never change.
As for actual financial compensation...how would one even go about doing that? I think we need to leave the past in the past. Learn from our mistakes and move on rather than drag our problems with us.

I can't wait for the day when blacks and white and beaners can't tell one another apart. There's no such thing as a purebread person in america. There's a honkey in the woodpile in every black family, and the same goes for every other race.
It's as simple as puting the past behind you. Problem is; some people are too IGNORANT and STUBBORN to leave the past where it belongs. They think we owe them compensation and appologies; but the truth is that these people are lazy good-for-nothing ticks on the ass of mankind.

Sure it's still around. I run into so many people who just don't like people of a certain race(s). You see it everywhere ya go. Work, at school, in sports, etc...I have a feeling that everyone is guilty of it whether doing it conciously or unconciously, but it's ever-present, and will be for a long time.

I think everyone is at least a little bit racist. Even if it's unintentionally. As such, I Believe it will always be around... Good ol' racism.

Yeah, I think we all are at some point in our lives, or rather, it's inherent in us, unfortunately.
Agreed, No matter how hard we try, we all prejudge people regardless. And it doesn't always have to be about race like this thread is about.
