GFX Chit Chat

Actually I'm trying to take a screenshot now and it's not actually print screening like it's supposed to. So maybe my keyboard is fudged

:lew:

I've edited my post because others gave some input as well!

Hey send my thanks to everyone on Discord! :yay: I'll check out these fixes. It's very possible that something is mixed up in my keyboard shortcuts as I've got a lot of manual changes. I'll mess around some and hopefully the issue won't come up again! It just doesn't happen all the time so it's hard to recreate when I don't know the exact reason.

It's possible that you accidentally turned on sticky keys, which makes shortcuts use one key instead of two. So if you're trying two-key shortcuts, it would probably act strangely. Try going to settings > keyboards and clicking "prevent sticky keys."

This happened to me once, I was well pissed. It's the worst thing if you can't figure out what this is.

Of course now that I've been trying to get it to act funny it won't do it. :humph:

If it was sticky keys I think it would reflect on more than just Photoshop though :hmmm: I'll definitely check it if it happens again to rule it out though!

It's just curious that hitting the Reset all Warning Dialogs fixes the problem. I'm hitting so many keys out of muscle memory that it's hard to pinpoint what exactly I'm doing that makes it set off.

I've gone ahead and switched my language and stuff though. I've got a spare keyboard that I'll dig out that may help too, since apparently my print screen button decided today was the day it wouldn't work. -__-

Thanks for your guys' input! I appreciate the help 🤗

Apparently changing my windows language has fixed my issue since I've not really experienced the problem since :wacky: Not sure why but I'll accept the fix. I hate it when things don't work the way I want them. Thanks to everyone who tried helping me find a solution!

P.S. - Six Have you tried using shortcuts yet? 😂

So this issue has been bugging me for a little while now - OK a long while if I'm being completely honest, so I thought I would bring it up here to see if any of you guys had any similar stories or insights to share. The topic of discussion here is frickin' injury and back issues. Riveting stuff I know, but probably something you can relate to given the nature and time GFX can command.

Working on graphic design for 6-8 hours daily I've ended up developing some chronic pain in my back and shoulders and nothing seems to be shifting it, not stretching, or walking, or deep breathing exercises, or throwing a penny into a wishing fountain; it seems to be there to stay. Pathetically enough, this was something which sprouted back when I was only in my second year of college and now in my final year it's gotten pretty bad. I know a few friends of mine from this forum and beyond often experience pretty bad side effects from working on graphic design be it in their wrists, backs and/or shoulders. This has me wondering, why is it this discipline can lead to such chronic conditions? I've honestly, never experienced anything even close to it when gaming and you would think that gaming would create far more repetitive strain injuries given its rap sheet on addictiveness and length of time spent in a give position.

So I wanted to throw this out there and ask you folks your thoughts on this and maybe see what your experiences are. Would you find GFX work leaving you more prone to repetitive strain injuries or nah? Would you find it comparable or lesser to other activities such as gaming or significantly more so? Any thoughts or comments are definitely welcome, as they say, misery loves company :lew:

Are you regularly stretching during your 6+ hours of GFX time? My last job I worked at was almost exactly this, but they forced us to stand and do our ergonomic stretches. (We called them Turbo-Ergos :wacky:)I believe we only did them 2 times a day but the recommendation I believe was every 30 minutes.

But yes, I believe I’ve had issues very similar to this. Usually stems from my wrist/arm and just gets progressively worse elsewhere. Back issues may also be posture. Tingly legs means you def need to stand more often as you’re cutting off blood flow to your legs. There are several samples online on differentspecific exercises to do! Just little tidbits of information If you weren’t already aware.

Also, allow time to heal. Back issues heal very slowly in my experience

As opposed to gaming, well, at a desk (work) we tend to be a bit more stiff and in the zone, where at home I think we’re more in tune with ourselves and are more comfortable moving around and sitting in different positions.

I hope you start feeling better & maybe find some sort of help with the above or anything afterwards! Don’t get carpal tunnel either!

edit: I realize my above post reflects what you already mentioned, but if you look into ergonomic stretches and regularly practice them over time (be consistent!) it could very possibly help! But as always, consider a doctor If you think it’s getting worse and worse. The above is just what helped me, because I was very similar in what you’re talking about :flower:

Thanks for sharing your insights Miko, there were some things there that I wasn't aware of such as the recommendation to do stretches every 30 minutes. Maybe that's part of the problem, getting so engrossed in what I'm doing for too long a stint. In general I tend to stretch every 2-3 hours which is way over the possible recommendation there.

Since college has us studying from home, I've been working pretty much every where to find the best location for comfort, however, it's difficult to stay on track when working from a sofa or bed since it's way too easy to doze off :lew:. I saw on Logitech (of all places) when I was researching their company recently that it's a good idea to elevate your laptop when working from home, so my father built me a little stand for Christmas which has helped my shoulders somewhat, so that's something at least! Just thought I would pass that one on in case anyone else finds it helpful.
