FFVII Headcanons

For those that aren't aware. "Headcanons" are "An idea, belief, or aspect of a story that is not mentioned in the media itself, but is accepted by either the media consumer themselves or the fandom in general. If it is confirmed by the creator of the story, it becomes canon." The term "headcanon" can be shortened to "HC".

So with that said, tell us some of your headcanons, guys. You never know if Square Enix might see this forum and steal your ideas!

I'll go first.

Aerith headcanon -
Having never been outside of Midgar before, I feel like Aerith would naturally inherent her father's love for science and learning and would enjoy sketching out the animals and plants she's never seen before in a notebook, as well as writing down her observations and thoughts about being a Cetra. It's not widely known, but in the KH universe, Aerith deciphers languages so that's always seemed like a good indicator of how smart she is and her hunger for knowledge.

Hmm.. interesting, so I've never actually given this real thought, so bare with me.

Tifa headcanon -

Losing her parents at a young age I feel that Tifa naturally takes on a protector role when it comes to her friends. Joining AVALANCHE I feel like she wanted, mainly for herself, to feel like she was making a difference, a good contribution, to saving their world. I think she's a natural worrier and she'll often lay awake worrying about all the things that could go wrong due to her trauma at such a young age.

Exactly like that. Although, I feel like Square Enix has definitely proven that HC canon.

 

[Starships]

Cloud :

Not a fan of alcohol, or heavy alcohol related drinks, though he will make it and enjoy it if Tifa makes it.

Doesn't like to be touched, though he loves it when Nanaki/ Red XIII licks him like a happy puppy dog. Cloud also loves to pat him and feed him treats.

Cloud has never celebrated his birthday and nor does he like it. In his childhood, he got no gifts or attention from the townsfolk and his Mum was too poor to give him anything, and would always save up for Christmas to give him something then instead. Aug 11th is just a normal day for him. Tifa did try and give him a proper birthday once- but he just spent the whole day doing work and it just caused an argument between them.

Cloud ( and Tifa) fully adopt Denzel. And they both fully and officially become his parents. Cloud loves being a Dad. Cloud loves to read him stories, let him help fix the motorbike, teach him things and tell him stories about Zack and Aerith.

For most of the game, Cloud wore a flower of Aerith's in his hair. Barret and Cid laughed at him- but he didn't care. After the mental breakdown- the flower goes missing.

Cloud does eventually marry Tifa. Though, it doesn't happen till he's about 40 years old. They never have children of their own. Cloud feels a bit sad about this. Though part of feels like, even though he does enjoy being a Father ( to Denzel ), he's a failure and a horrible Father. So maybe it was for the best.

Cloud loves Aerith AND Tifa and has almost awkwardly called out Aerith's name with sex with Tifa once. Cloud was lucky as Tifa didn't hear his "Ae-fft "


Aerith :

Aerith hates candy, she never had it as a child and she thinks that it tastes strange. The sugary taste almost makes her feel like spewing up.

Aerith considers Tifa to be her BFF. Though she cannot stand Yuffie and finds her difficult and stressful. Whenever she's in focus, Aerith just walks away or tries to hang out with Cloud, Red or Tifa. She just needs 10 seconds to calm down.


Aerith suffers from bad nightmares about the Shrina and Hojo, so she's an insomniac. She doesn't really sleep at all. Cloud doesn't really sleep much either- so instead of sleeping, they are just speaking and chatting and hanging out.

Aerith at first, struggled to get over the death of Zack- though eventually she falls for Cloud and begins to move on- but then.... ( I think this is Canon ? But I'm not sure )

Aerith actually hates the color pink- but she did it for Zack and kept wearing it for Zack. At times, she regrets this.

In the Lifestream, she still yearns for Cloud- but she feels like it's more important to just be there for him and help him out- instead of just sitting there in the Lifestream being heartbroken and jealous of Tifa. Zack still flirts with her- which she finds annoying. To her- Zack is that ex that just. won't. go. away.

Aerith doesn't hate Zack and still has some small feelings for him, she just loves Cloud more. Aerith just wants Zack to be a good friend.



Tifa :

Tifa as a child loved the story of Sleeping Beauty as a kid and hence why she wanted Cloud to save her. Later she becomes more in Western stories about Cowboys, hence her Cowgirl outfit later on. She loves to read and when traveling she had to take a big bag of books with her and she always got excited to find new books in new towns in cities. She got Aerith into reading as well and they would always gossip about chat about their favorite characters.


When Tifa was a baby, her Mum got her a giant Dolphin toy. Since then Dolphins became her favorite animal. She still sleeps with this toy, even as an adult. Cloud finds it to be strange, but also cute. Tifa wasn't jealous that Cloud got to ride Mr. Dolphin as she was worried that she might hurt it.


Tifa is destroyed when she goes to the Doctor and finds out that she lost her baby- and again, and again, and before she gives up- again. She always keeps it hidden from Cloud. That she was pregnant and lost it. She finds it painful when Cloud casually speaks about maybe having their own kid one day.

Tifa, before she got married, spent some time traveling with Barret and an older Marlene, just to get away from the bar for a while. Tifa even thinks about maybe dating and moving on with somebody else for a while- but she always "goes back to Cloud ".

Tifa always struggles to not fall into a heavy depression. Whenever she's feeling too sad, she goes to Aerith's old church and drops off some flowers there and just has a conversation with her. And just have a good cry.


Zack :

If he got back to Midgar, he wanted to marry Aerith straight away. Even if she had moved on, or was furious with him for leaving for so long. Though, he wanted to get a new job first.

Zack did consider Cloud to be a true friend, and eventually his BFF,


Zack always loved visiting Cloud's mum and her Apple Pie. Cloud was always embarrassed, but secretly happy about this.

Zack is not jealous that Aerith has moved on with Cloud, but he also keeps on trying for a date with her. Zack has even said " Yeah, if I was gay, I would move on with Cloud as well " to Aerith's face.

When Zack was three years old, he wanted to be a Dog and even went around barking at the Gongaga townspeople. Zack forgot about this, until the first time Angeal called him a Puppy. Zack cringed at first, but then he got used to it and started to like it. Zack has only told Aerith about this. She laughed happily.

Zack has tried the FFVII universe version of ''weed'' and used to smoke it a lot before serious missions. Zack later got into exercising to cope with the stress. Zack became addicted to exercise, but he jokes saying '' it's a healthy drug !"


Barret :

Barret keeps on trying and suggesting to Cloud and Tifa to officially adopt Marlene because they would be better parents. When Marlene becomes a teen, he gives up. He can't just let her go. She is his daughter now. Marlene always calls Tifa and Cloud Mum and Dad though, and he doesn't mind.

Barret later becomes rich and wealthy, striking oil and starts off a company of his own and becomes President Wallace. Some like to call out that he's now no better than the old Shrina INC. Barret firmly believes that his company is better for the planet. Barret takes Marlene to the richest school.

Barret donates money to Corel and helps recover his town to its former self. Barret ''all of a sudden '' becomes a celebrity and hero in that town. Barret hates it- feeling like they are fake.

Barret is PISSED when he finds out that Teenaged Marlene has run away to sell flowers in Midgar to be like Aerith. Though he later calms down and lets her do her own thing- much to Cloud and Tifa's disagreement.

Barret and Aerith don't get along at first, especially after the Gold Saucer event. But later on, they become good friends.


Cid :

Cid wanted a son- but he got eight daughters instead. F.

 

[Draconic]

Due to a certain fanfic, I am firmly of the opinion that if Sephiroth hadn’t gone insane, he’d be a great match for Cissnei.

 

[Dionysos]

Mr. Dolphin was once a performing animal at a Shinra-sponsored sealife park at Junon (a bit like Sea World). This is why Mr. Dolphin appears on logos printed on kid t-shirts during the remake trailer:

Priscilla broke him free, but Mr. Dolphin decided to stay close to Junon so that he could watch over Priscilla.

His history as the star of a dolphin show is why it was actually logical and not silly at all that the party decided to use Mr. Dolphin to fly Cloud up to the upper levels of Junon... The show-trained Mr. Dolphin was perfect for this.



I've just made up this headcanon on the spot and haven't thought it through at all.... But I kinda like it.

 

[Roshidon]

Well if we consider that Advent Children never happened (which I like to do; not that I don't like the movie although the story isn't great; it's probably fun to watch one time for the fight-scenes and that's about it) then I like to think Cloud and Tifa get married and have a family at the end of the events of FF7. With Cloud's fighting skills he could probably join the military or atleast some type of bodyguard service. I could definitely see Tifa heading up a martial arts dojo.

I like to think that Reeve continually seeks out cloud and the others to join the WRO as an elite unit or as leaders of the world because he believes that they all have the best moral views for the job as well as being a diverse enough group that nobody would feel marginalized like the Wutai citizens after they lost their war. i like to think that in this way reeve, cloud and the others would then be able to actually unite the world so as to avoid such a war in the future. but that barret is consumed with a new energy source to replace mako, cid is to busy trying to get back to space, redxiii is busy making sure cosmo canyon is well protected, Yuffie is still hunting materia, vincent researching how to help Lucrecia, Tifa is content with her bar and teaching martial arts on the side and cloud wanting nothing more than to make good use of his delivery service because he's had enough of big companies and governments. despite all of this i like to think that reeve still tries and eventually suceeds (he convinces yuffie that she would still get to travel and hunt materia)
