The one in the Henne Mines is repeatable, so you could theoretically obtain infinite Zodiac Spears.....but why bother? It wouldn't hurt to say that the odds of obtaining it can be reduced to 1/100 via the following method: Zone in and out of the area until the chest actually appears, save your game, and open the chest. If you received the Spear....epic, if not, reset and check again. The chest will always be there, which reduces the odds down to 1/100.

That method does help.
Done it with Demonsbane and Deathbringer. If I got one, I'd save, then keep coming back and forth til the chest was there again, when it was save. Then open the chest, if it wasn't a Demonsbane, press start exit to title, reload, try again. Basically the same with Ichungo (sp?) for the Deathbringer.

That's what i did to get excalibur. I've had no luck getting the 2nd zodiac spear though. It's too time-consuming, especially because i'm trying to level up so i can defeat Yiazmat, which will be a major pain in the butt.
I'm not sure if someone already asked this, but...I started a new game (with the hopes that I can achieve 100% completion. You can tell, I'm obsessed with FF12 ;D) and I haven't touched any of the chests so far -- as far as I know. But I was in lowtown the other day and the chest that you're supposedly not supposed to touch was gone. Does it dissapear or did I most likely open it?

im not sure if that chest is like any tohers but others only appear sometimes.. so just zone out and back in and check if its there.. if so then gl on the spear if not then restart the game or get it from henne mines( GOOD LUCK !!! )

Trying to get it from the Henne Mines is nigh on impossible you have a tiny chance of getting it, starting a new file will probably be quicker.
But saying that i thought the Zodiac spear yeah it deals lots of damage but so do greatswords and greatsword have a higher multiple hit chance, and i think there quicker.

I'm glad that we have a second chance of getting the Zodiac spear. I really thought that I would never get it after reading about ''Not open the four specific boxes'' ... I'm at Henne Mines now, and I'm going to try to get it =) Yeey !
