I'll do a top eleven list.

11. Platoon: Just intense

10. The Patriot: Jason Isaacs really took the cake here.

9. Last of the Mohicans: First war movie I've seen, and I really credit the scenery and the music more than anything.

8. Enemy at the Gates: I like a movie that shows the less savory aspects of the "good" side. This movie showed that the Soviets weren't that much better off than the Germans.

7. Apocalypse Now: What can I say? It's a war classic. Really portrays the effect it can have on one's mind.

6. Full Metal Jacket: The first half was hilarious, except for the ending. This was a great film, but I don't think you were meant to bond with the characters. More emphasis was placed on the shitty situation.

5. Braveheart: Moving plot, beautiful scenery, great battles, Scottish music, and characters you connected with. You just hated the King.

4. Saving Private Ryan: What can I say? It's a World War II film, and I always watch a WWII movie. You got an awesome set of characters there.

3. Stalingrad: I never thought I'd feel anything other than disgust for German troops in a WWII movie, but this actually almost made me feel sorry for them. I do love a movie that shows thing from the other side.

2. Tae Guk Gi: Korean War film made in SK. Intense and at times depressing storyline. It mostly focuses on the main character tryind to do anything to protect his brother and he just loses it when he thinks his brother died.

1. Band of Brothers: I think it's the best war related production I've seen. Mainly because it focused on the individual soldiers rather than the situation. The most powerful and heart-wrenching moment is when they find the concentration camp in Germany. The funny moments stood out as well, to show that in every hell there are those moments of light.

Saving Private Ryan and Platoon are ace, Saving Private Ryan is on abit long though >_>

It's still good though, even if Vin Diesel does die in it -__- It doesn't half make me blub though 8F Epic film

Platoon is absolutely brilliant. I LOVE this film SO much, I remember the first time I watched it and it traumatised me hahaha. I dunno why really... i had nightmares for 2 weeks, it was just when Dafoe runs out of the jungle after that NOB HEAD left himin there and the helicopters off and away without him :gonk:

Full Metal Jacket, lol. I had this on VHS 8F Still need to get it on dvd -__- I loved the beginning though private pile 8F

Sbhindlers list as well, another long one, but still really good :hmmm:

Chances are if Im put infront of a war film, Il love it, if theres one on tv Il sit and wath it, though I went to watch the boy in the striped pyjamas at the pictures...that bored me abit <_<

I think Im more intersted in the action tbh :wacky:

Tora Tora Tora is one if not my favoruite war film, the action sequences are great, and you know that there will be consequences for what has happened, it doesn't have a happy ending.

The Bridge On The River Kwai is another great war movie and probably one of the best acted ones. With Nichlson spending so long in the sun box as a point of principle and then sacrificing those principles so that he can build a better bridge than the Japanese and prove British superiority.

Going to have to go with:
Black Hawk Down
Jarhead
Patton
Flags of Our Fathers
Letters From Iwo Jima

BHD and Patton for how accurate and realistic they were/are.

I've never seen Saving Private Ryan, but I have seen bits and pieces of Tora Tora Tora. I might look for it after my next paycheck or so.

Interesting tidbit... Tora does not mean "Attack." It means "Success." They were supposed to say it to signal that they had breached the base's defenses, and that it was okay for other planes, boats, and subs to move in.

I should mention that the one thing I did not like about Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers is the fact that they did not acknowledge the French Resistance. Yet the French Resistance helped us a lot there. Band of Brothers did acknowledge the Dutch though in Market Garden.

Would Grave of the Fireflies be considered a war movie? That one was also really powerful.

I don't often watch war movies/programs, but I really like Band of Brothers. The characters are good and interesting, and the fact that a lot of it happened in the region where I live makes it even more interesting for me to watch. I liked the short interviews with the real WWII soldiers at the start and end of each episode, it adds extra reality to the scenes on the screen.

Also, great soundtrack by Micheal Kamen.

Most War films especially about WW2 fail, almost certainly purposely, how massive a part the Soviets played in WW2.
At least Apocalypse acknowledges that the VC are evil commies, and that the Americans funded them before. I thought it was decent enough, but I've only seen the Redux version which is far too long.
I'm not sure if Downfall qualifies as a war movie per se, but I enjoyed it a lot.
I've not seen it, but Das Boot is supposed to be very good as well.
