XIV payment help

I just bought XIV yesterday to try it out (CE for $25 new!) And I have a few questions.

I was under the impression that XIV is still free, correct? I've never played an MMO and I didn't think you would need credit card info while it was still free, but you do.

Anyways, I have a VISA debit gift card with $10 on it.....am I able to pay (or use, not pay) with this? These kinda cards are kind of confusing to me, so can someone help me out?

They just need your credit card info to have it on record.

You shouldn't have to pay anything. I haven't paid anything yet.

I don't really see how the game is horrible so far, I'm enjoying it ok enough
