I've noticed alot of people confuse these two things, or don't know the difference.

The reason why i've created this thread, is because I want to know if you'd rather be intelligent, or wise.

Say why, to make things interesting. Also feel free to argue the pros and cons of both.

For the record I'd rather be wise

I chose to be Wise.

I think that to be Wise you must have experience and also intelligence.

An intelligent person is only intelligent until they gain experience and learn that intelligence doesn't always matter when it comes to making wise decisions.

An intelligent person may be proud of his intelligence, but a wise man is wise enough to be humble.

Intelligence and Wisdom

I hope I made sense. I think I confused myself. =/

With wisdom comes the ability to apply your intelligence whenever and wherever it is possible. You might know how to clone your mother but you might not be wise enough to consider whether or not this is a good idea. You might know how to drive but you might not be wise enough to never drink alcohol before getting behind the wheel of a car.

Intelligence is pointless without wisdom.

I choose you! ........ Intelligence!

This is like the question that is asked in high schools, would you rather be smart :nerd:, popular :cloud: or good looking :neomon:?
Each have pros and cons soo which one would you be?

Being popular has its advantages but being smart you will be successful in life like Bill Gates.

As an Atheist, I choose intelligence because I see wisdom has something to do with faith.. religion.

Bill Gates is not successful because of his intelligence, he's successful because he's extraordinarily conniving and really fucking lucky. He made his money because he had IBM by the balls, which gave him the opportunity to license his OS, the basis of which was purchased from another guy who had no idea about the IBM/MS deal for $50k.

Also, wisdom is just using one's knowledge to make judgments about whether or not something is true. Although it is a component of faith, it does not exist solely within religion. And without it, atheism would not be as sure footed as it is now, because we're still nowhere near intelligent enough to fully explain God in all of his nonexistence.

Anyways, I'd choose both. They go hand in hand. Being wise while being a total dumb ass wouldn't be very fun, and being a total braniac without the capacity to make judgements would be miserable.

This is a very interesting question.
I think being wise is something that develops over time. something that you've learned over time. Like respect your elders they're wise because they were once your age and they probably did stupid things that you've done at your age, and learned from it and therefore are wise.
Intelligence to me is something that you gain not something you've learned from. You've gained the ability to do.. a math problem lets say. So, therefore you are intelligent
It's a sort of confusing topic but, i think i'd rather be wise then intelligent

I choose intelligence. I'm personally inclined to the sciences and all kinds of logical puzzles, so I'd lose a great portion of my joy in life if I were to lose the intelligence that allows me to take part in such things.

While wisdom is important, and obviously in any normal conditions the two go hand in hand, I feel that it is more useful in social settings. I more or less keep to myself and my books in most cases.

Well, seeing as intelligence relates to how fast you gain knowledge, knowledge is how much you know, and Wisdom is how you use that knowledge, I'd pick Wisdom.

After all, you can use your intelligence to gain all the knowledge in the world, but without wisdom you'll still make horribly foolish decisions that could screw up your life forever.

P.S. I realize I added knowledge to the list, but I felt the need to distinguish it from intelligence.
