I mean holy crap! You go to any other FF forum and the minute someone mentions FFVII, everybody spams out and are like "OMZSG FFVII MAJORLY SUCKKKKSSSS!!!!!!!!111111" or some crap like that.

Just wondering if anyone knows why all the hate for a game that PAVED the way for other Japanese RPG to even come to the states.

Hate for FFVII = No Respect :D

I have a feeling it's some kind of backlash for what's easily the most popular game in the series. FFVII was my first Final Fantasy and my first RPG, so it's always going to be my favorite. I'm guessing some fans just got so sick of people saying it's the best they decided to say they hate it.

It was probably a bunch of people trying to act like they have more experience beyond FFVII. For example, back then I was considered "inexperienced" among my friends who'd played through 4, 5 and 6 because I knew almost nothing beyong Cloud, Aeris, Sephiroth, etc. I don't see why that reasoning would still work, though, because now we "FFVII n00bs" aren't so "new" anymore. I mean, we've played through 7, Tactics, 8, 9, 10, 11, Crystal Chronicle, Tactics Advance and even 12, for crying out loud. With all the new re-releases, a good bit of us have played the first six as well.

Like anything that's very popular, FFVII has its very own haters. It's a testament to how good the game really is.

*Cough*
Our little Administrator is cheating on FFF, eh? :P

Anyone who writes in such a way that you have done either does not understand the story whatsoever, has no comprehension or is completely out of his tree.

Some people feel left out of the excitement because they were late starters, or haven't fully gotten into the game. Some generally don't like it, for whatever reason escapes me, however.

They might not like it because...well they just dont like RPG games i know alot of people who hate final fantasy just because the characters dont talk.
So i shot them.....not really of course....

Well, there's always a hate crowd for almost everything popular that exists. Perhaps it's jealousy, attention seeking or a diversion done on purpose to be "different", for any reason at all. It's inevitable, however. Just because you may like FF7 doesn't mean you're obsessed with it, or possibly "lame", it's just personal taste. Of course, with personal taste, it's very subjective. You wouldn't be wrong for liking a game, and you wouldn't be wrong if you hated it either, even if almost everyone else doesn't hate it.

Some people hate it for being overrated too, on GameFAQs, it got #1 game of all time! I think it's very overrated, so if you hated it, it adds more hate, if you never knew about it, youll probably start hatng it, i know some ppl who hate RPG's they do that too....

This isn't the best FF, there is no best FF - yes, there will be one that sells more copies then any other FF title, but it doesn't mean it is the best FF ever made.

Hate for FFVII = No Respect?

How about: Those who hate FFVII = We respect their opinion and get on with our lives.

There's a lot of flaws in each game, and also through extreme fangirlism/fanboyism, people come to hate certain FF titles more.

Some people don't like FFVII for what it is and not because of success or whatnot, a couple of my pals tried to play it for the first time recently and with a open mind to be fair and they didn't like it.

FFVII deserves to be looked upon as a classic and it's importance shouldn't be overlooked but it doesn't compare to a lot of the current games and has been bettered many times since it's release, it's not always because that they came into it late that they dislike it.

Some of the hate maybe because of being one minded and biased but saying "Hate for FFVII = No Respect" is just giving me the impression that you yourself don't respect other peoples opinions if they don't go along with yours. This sort of crap does go both ways.

It would be a different story if you hate FFVII, force others to hate it, tease others for being fanboy geniuses because they like it, and blatantly try to prove to everyone that FFVII sucks, and everyone else is wrong. Then you would have no respect.

I think it has to do with the "l337" oldschool players bashing on the newer FF players because it makes them feel special in some way. I played FF7 in 2001 and I'm still a huge fan and also one of the biggest fans of Advent Children you'll ever know. It wasn't my favorite FF because it was my first RPG or whatnot (my first RPG would probably be those Pokemon games or Zelda for the N64...). And besides, I still played FFX and FFVIII but ultimetely preffered FFVII better because it touched me more on an emotional level than any other game has.

Something popular = people just FEEL the need to bash it because it is successfull and popular. Just how it works. I wish it didn't happen, because it's annoying, but aslong as people bash FFVII without targeting the fans and actually give GOOD reasons as to why the game wasn't for them, I won't get that mad. Sure, I'll get annoyed since it's my favorite game of all-time, but if they aren't saying "FFVII fans only like FFVII because Sephiroth is hawt and because Cloud has a big sword" and don't bash FF7 on every forum topic that they post in, all the more power to them.

But honestly, I agree with you, there's so much FFVII and FFVII Compilation hate these days, especially on FF forums, or heck, FF VII forums dedicated to the same game! I just think it's pointless if you're going to join a forum dedicated to FFVII: Advent Children and then bash it like it was the worst thing you ever saw...

So yeah, there's my little rant for ya.

Well, joining an FFVII forum for the sole purpose of expressing your hate for that game or the compilation is just a blatant disregard for the fans' feelings. It would probably also be seen as an act to get other fans to stop liking the game so much, but it's really a matter of personal taste that everyone has a right to. Perhaps it might be a better idea for people to join a forum specifically meant for bashing games, or for giving analytical or serious reviews or criticisms for video games, because then people might treat you more seriously. But on an FFVII forum which is comprised mostly of fans, obsessed people, people who like the game, and many others, who may not care for the haters or react too negatively towards them, I don't think it's such a good idea. So I must conclude that they're probably doing it from a lack of respect.

Final Fantasy was my first, and my fav. I do like VII the best. Dont get me wrong. I like all the other games. But 7 more. It was my first real Final Fantasy. I got it in like at the end of 2004. The graphics are outdated, but the story never will be. Sure the game has alot of faults and bugs. And maybe a couple of dissapointments. And even the fact that they are over using it. But it truly shines and is possibly one of the best games in the series.

I have my share of critism, but I like it to.

They probably haven't even really played VII. Or they started it or didn't even give it a fair chance. Newer fans to the FF series might not be able to get past "the oldness" of the game, actually that was the case with one of my friends who first started playing when IX came out. I told him about VII and he said he didn't want to waste his time with such "an old game". True story, very sad I know.

Definitely not the reason for everybody, but perhaps a few. Ignorance could be the reason. And backlash against anything that is purported to be "one of the best".

I'll reveal some light as well. I am not that big of a fan of FFVII myself.

Like someone stated before me, it was a lot of people's first RPG and they are attached to it. They are exposed through that game even though they haven't played the predecessors. In turn people, probably a lot here, will defend it.

Anyways, the main problem with FFVII is it takes away from the main Final Fantasy feel. Sure, the plot was good, but the surroundings with the technical advancements and all that made it feel out of place. (Much like FFVIII). Many people don't know this little fact. I have yet to see a FF, besides VIII, that maintained cars and such to a certain aspect that was released to the states. Sure, someone will say "No, there's one in (insert number 3-6)" but those still maintained the feel.

And yes, people will say it maintained the feel, but after you played others (I-II), you will see what I mean.

BTW, if you haven't guessed it, VIII is my least favorite.

Final Fantasy VII has been and still will be bettered by newer games, it's a natural progression of things and it's not completely based on ignorance that people don't want to play or don't like FFVII. I know a few people who play it today and can't stand the gameplay and the basic battle system, play games like Grandia II and even Squares own Chrono Trigger (which is ironically older) and FFXII to see that FFVII as a game is quite basic.

The games story is its saving grace though with a couple of nice twists at the time which made it stand out although you could argue that when released there wasn't much to compare it to but anyway. This isn't a criticism as stories in RPGs are meant mostly to keep the game going and FFVIIs is by no means the worst, it's just not the best or deepest story of all time either.

The characters in general are very two dimensional although Cloud with this game became the template for the 'spiky haired hero' that stars in 90% of RPGs to this day, Sephiroth was the same for villians in some respect too. This is another thing that makes FFVII stand out for complaint as Cloud could be looked upon as unoriginal although he was actually one of the first to be like this.

FFVII was and still is a classic that opened the doors for other JRPGs to be brought out here and fully deserves any plaudits it receives and I still enjoy playing it but it's other peoples choices whether or not they wish to play a game that is 10 years old, it's not always ignorance it's just that there are other and better games available today and peoples opinions of what make a good game change too.

They are either:
1. Pissed about how big the damn FF7 Bandwagon is
2. Noobs
3. Shallow people who only like high quality graphical games

The only Final fantasies I enjoyed were 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 and Tactics the rest are stupid especially Advent Children the gay movie

True, every THING, not just video games, has its haters, whether it be dogs hating cats and later typing, "YOUSE FAWKING CATZ IZ THE WORST SPECIES IN THE HOOD!!!" so don't feel too bad. The illiterate immature ignorants out there can a) get better i) at SPELLING!!! GOD, do I hate that when people hate something then constantly spams...shudder... and ii) SUPPORTING YOUR ARGUMENT!! Why does FFVII suck? Give your pointless squawking some meaning. b) Stay the hell away from forums in general.

That's my two cents.

To me, this more modern FF helps to heighten your appreciation for it. VII was the first Final Fantasy which moved on from the typical "Dungeons and Dragons" feel and moved on to a more futuristic atmosphere, this theme progressing all the way through.

Personally I think it's because they want to look different. You know, everybody talks about how FF7 is the greatest game ever, so they're like "OMFG I'M AN INDIVIDUALIST AND FF7 SUCKS!".

I even bet you ten dollars that they came to the conclusion that it sucked BEFORE they even played the game.
