i was just watching a documentary about palliative care in the uk. more specifically about something called the liverpool care pathway. anyway the long and short of it is that lots of people complained about lcp because in their professional medical opinions it accelerated the death of their loved ones who were already terminally ill and only had days to live. but thats really great because in the face of death people with absolutely no medical knowledge at all somehow manage to have superior medical knowledge to the people who they otherwise trust. i dont doubt that there are cases of genuine misconduct but the sad and unfortunate fact is that death has a 100% success rate and that isnt anyone's fault.
just like it's no one's fault that we dont have wings.
let's not decide that we've suddenly become medical professionals over night!
