No need to expand if you don't want to, but what is your (big or small) FF unpopular opinion?

Is it that Quina the best character to grace the series?
Or that Clerith is canon?
Perhaps FFX-2 wasn't that bad
Or FFXV was better?

Either way, what's your unpopular opinion about something in the series?

Final Fantasy XIII has one of the most exciting battle systems in the series :sup:

No kidding! I really feel XIII's battle system requires more attention than many of the previous FF 's to which I would just use any over powered attack/spell or focus on the one weakness. With XIII's Paradigm Shift system, I felt I always had to adapt the team to different sets depending on how the tide of battle. The focus on Buffs and Debuffs was far more active that in previous FF games too - I might occasionally use poison but truth by told I wouldn't use many other status element/affect spells. But I remember when you first had to use Snow who has the Synergist paradigm, if you don't use this effectively on them bikes in Palumpolum YOU'D GET WRECKED!

Then there is the Stagger system! I LOVE THIS! :cheer:I found the process of building up the Stagger bar very engaging, usually requiring a good mixture of attack and Magic spells. But t hen you hit that Stagger Point, the heat is on!!! the joy of seeing your enemy limp as you build up that Stagger percentage to it's peak before deploying a summon to obliterate the opponent is so thrilling - I never got tired of the system and would love to see it return.

I know the obvious counter argument to XIII's battle system - Auto-Battle. :scaryface:

God I wish this wasn't included as I bet the game would fair far better. But I never found myself using this, if anything I found it a hindrance as it would often not utilise the ATB bar often missing out one of the bars with each set of commands. But the focus of XIII's combat system is more on applying Paradigm Shifts to adapt with the flow of battle and I loved that.
 
Raubahn (FF14) is more good-looking than Aymeric (FF14). Barrett (FF7/FF7R) is more good-looking than Vincent Valentine (FF7/FF7R).

I also have a strong opinion that Square Enix has to eventually create a Final Fantasy Multiverse game that is NOT chibi and is actually CANON. I think that would be a brilliant idea in perhaps 2040 (when all of us here are either retired or dead) and Square Enix went out of their way to fully remake all the popular pre-PS3 FF games ever.

I also have a strong opinion that they need to make the male protagonists of FF games more muscular. I'm not asking for cartoony-muscular, but man do I feel weird playing a small boy like Cloud flail that massive metal sword like it was a wooden stick.

Dark Messenger is a better boss theme than One Winged Angel. Dont get me wrong, Sephiroths theme is pretty good, but Kujas blows it outta the water for me. But it is my favorite villain theme song of all time so I'm pretty biased.

Also, I actually liked the License Board in XII. It was easy to use and let you make your characters into whatever you want. True, it makes turning your characters into broken overpowered demi gods a little too easy by around mid game but I liked it.
 
FFVIII's Draw system is a better playing experience than FFX's Sphere Grid thing. :cool:

I can sit there drawing and capping magic from every monster I meet, starting from the humble bite bug - and then just have it sit there. There's a sense of completion to that. But no way I'm I completing a grid by unlocking all these spheres only to have to go back in later game to replace what I just did with better ones and filling all those empty nodes....and for how many characters again? No. Just. No. Hell. No.
 
I really don't have any controversial opinions other than I believe Final Fantasy 11, and 14 should have never been MMOs. Most of my opinions are very much in-lined with common examples of the average fan other than that.

As characteristic of Square Enix, they made the Sphere Grid look awesome. It's a work of art. But I am with you on this one. And a lot of times, you are forced to move your character's spot on a sphere grid that does zero impact on your playstyle, but you have to do it anyway because you need to get close to a desired sphere grid from far away.
 
I don't know if the consensus that FFVIII's battle system sucks is still going strong but I found it kind fun to be honest. Granted I am still in disk 2 but it's not as bad as people led me to believe.

My unpopular opinion from when I played FFVI was that it was meh (I didn't beat it to the end but played a good chunk of it). Of course it's been many years and maybe if I replay it with better attention span this time I'll experience it differently.

Another opinion I used to hold that might have been controversial in the past but not right now is that Action RPGs > Turn based RPGs. As much as I love FFVII and it's dear to my heart, I've always considered KH's battle system more exciting and fun and more challenging than FF (VII - XII). Sure turn based RPGs can be challenging but in a thinking sort of way. It doesn't really have a physical challenge added to it (like say The Legend of the Dragoon or Shadow Hearts). And still as far as thinking challenge goes, if you play more JRPGs you can find better ones. (like SMT: Nocturne). Like I said my opinion now may be outdated as of FFXV, but I've held it for quite a long time.

I kind of enjoyed the Dress up spin-off, sorry FFX-2. It was my very first Final Fantasy back in the day but the turn-based combat I found grueling. It wasn't until I saw Advent Children that I got into Final Fantasy. FFVII is miraculous no doubt about it.

I hate a lot of the female characters in the Final Fantasy series. Females in Final Fantasy tend to fall into three categories:

1. Manic Pixies (Rikku, Vanille, Selphie)
2. Soft spoken Yamato Nadeshiko (Yuna, Tifa, Lunafreya)
3. Too badass to ever have a happy emotion (Lightning, Payne, Fang).

Not saying that this applies to all female characters. but it would be great to see an average human character not fall under these tropes and suffer a key relatable trauma. Or just be a character that stands out by just simply not trying too hard to stand out.
 
i dont like the shooter ff games first soldier and or dirge of cerberus
also character design in ff9
in ffx i dont liked the battle difficulty at certain point in the game, where i stopped it
ffx-2 character design also horrible
 
The sphere system in FFX while exciting to grow and fill out ultimately kills all the uniqueness that every character has when by the end...everybody knows all the same moves. Also, this system makes it so that Kimarhi is versatile but also boring.

Also, Mystic Quest is better than it EVER gets credit for.
 
Final Fantasy Tactic >>>> other FF games
- Diverse class system
- Diverse characters
- Interesting storyline
- Interesting bar system
- Interesting chocobo breed system
- Interesting gameplay
- Loyalty system is also a new concept. If your party members loyalty are low they might leave your party
- Some classes which are not available in other FF games (Divine Knight, Mediator, etc)

PS: Final Fantasy 7 is overrated
 
XI and XIV, shouldn't have been numbered. XV shouldn't have qualified for a number.

VIII was the best game at release, but has aged the worst.

SE should focus on story and gameplay, not graphics.
 
I agree. Story and gameplay should be focused, in which gamers feel like they are characters (heroes or not heroes) during a hazardous journey. If the characters died (not only one but most of a team), gamers will feel regret, but the story still continue.
