Bit of a bump here. Apologies, but at least it is relevant.
Somewhat similar situation in Canada at the moment. It was unseasonably warm for a while, but as all spikes do, it dropped sharply around December, locking into a -45 Celsius average (windchill included) before leveling off to the present. Now the snow is beginning to look respectable, and more importantly, the frost provides a wicked view on the few trees that still exist in this whole urban wasteland thing.
A particularly good situation for those of us who have another week of holidays until university classes re-commence, and have nowhere to be but indoors, reading and writing. ^ _ ^
Polar bears and penguins coexisting at all being the first clue to the proposed ignorance, I guess . . .
Just returned from rural lakeside Saskatchewan, myself (Canadian province, FYI). That, my friend, is where all my experience with winter beauty emanates, and I would use a similar adjective. White poplar trees glowing at midnight are an impressive aspect, indeed.
Enjoyed the last one, too actually, which may be a clue that I am simply trying to keep you talking, to see what words you will play around with next.
@ Vice Nebulosa: Haha I must say your post warmed me up a little here in my winter clad home. (Seriously, it's been
snowing constantly for over a week soon! I'm feeling all nostalgic and christmasy finally.

polarbears and penguins roaming around the streets is for anyone with just an ounce of geographical cunning not
true at all,

Malgrun said:but these last years that "theory" has been even more of a blatant lie since we haven't had snow at all like
we used to in the winter. However, now it's finally thigh high again here and everything is just..beautiful.
