What are your thoughts of this game?

Yea, but now Sony is no longer makin HDD's for the Fatboy PS2 since Skinny came out..

So the only way you can play FFXI on the Ps2 is if you go to Ebay or find someone selling a Ps2 HDD and Hub.. Side from that your out of luck

Meh. The graphics on the PlayStation 2 are absolutely horrible for Final Fantasy XI anyways. I can't stand playing on mine when I powerlevel myself or something. If I had to play constantly on it, I probably wouldn't play at all. PC 4tw!

to be honest, it sucked, world of warcraft seriously defeats it... badly, graphicwise it's better, gameplaywise WoW beats it

never got higher then level 8(red mage) because i was bored to death and i had no clue how to use crystals

That's purely ignorance. Unless you have a reason to back up your opinion, it's not fair to those who read your post. If you didn't know how to use fire crystals, you should have looked it up or asked another player. Crystals are used for synthesizing items; crafting in World of Warcraft. While there may not have been hints and tips on Final Fantasy XI like there were in World of Warcraft, there was a manual telling you everything you needed to know.

What a lot of people fail to realize about World of Warcraft is that when they say over seven million copies sold, they're including people who have been banned multiple times and are required to get a new registration key. Let's not forget that World of Warcraft also has the most gold farmers of any online game.

It's wrong to judge a game that quickly. If you only got to level eight, you couldn't have played the game more than a couple days. At least play the game passed the early boring stuff first.

i have only 1 thing to say to you:
PERSONAL OPINION

have a nice day...

There's an unbelievably fine line between personal opinion and fact. You can't say something sucks in the matter that you did. If you're going to say something like you did, back in up with a reason. Otherwise, stay out of the Final Fantasy XI forum if you hate it so much.

Have a nice day.

i'm giving my personal opinion over the things in the same
in my opinion the gameplay sucks, but are the graphics better

in MY opinion, also, considering this is a forum i will ALWAYS tell others MY opinion since EVERYTHING on a forum IS subjective and NOT objective...

you have no reason to assault me about MY opinion, i see you have several max level characters on FFXI, and 1 non max level character in WoW, i myself had, before the expansion release, 3 max level characters on WoW, this pretty much says that you like FFXI, while thinking WoW is less your style, and for me it's the other way around, it's all about personal opinions... that's what a forum is about

you had no right on assaulting me about giving my personal opinion

maybe it's not in your country where personal opinions aren't allowed but in mine, it is... so please respect that...

I guess all I can say is that I wish I hope I get the chance to play this game someday. I'm not an online gamer at all, and the idea of paying monthly fees does not appeal to me.

Also, I've heard that it does take quite a while to earn a level up for your character. I really want to play it and dig myself into the plot, but since it's online, that's a no-go for me.

You obviously don't understand. It's one thing to say a game sucks and then list off reasons why you think it sucks. It's a whole new thing when you come into someone's thread who is asking for help, advice, etc. and outright tell them that the game sucks. You have no right to do so. You have no justification to your reason for saying that. "Hey there! This game sucks because I was too lazy to ask for help or read the manual." As with every single game out there, there will always be a bit of learning. Rather than telling someone else who may actually want to take the time to learn how to play the game that it sucks and not to play it, why don't you leave it to people who have played both games a little more.

That being said, I happen to enjoy playing World of Warcraft very much. However, I play more Final Fantasy XI because I am more into their end-game. The grinding on World of Warcraft does not really interest me too much as I don't personally like the fast-paced style. Once I reached level 40, I stopped grinding and starting mining. Through that, I bought my myself a mount to ride around on. I found something else in the game that I could enjoy. The biggest thing that I did not like about World of Warcraft was that there were so many arrogant kids who played that game and thought of themselves as some sort of gods. When I asked for help at any given time, the majority of the people told me to google it or find out for myself. When I asked for help on quests and whatnot, the majority of the responses toward me were either asking for some sort of reward in return for their time, or they told me they didn't have the time of day to waste on a newer character.

You do not have this with Final Fantasy XI. Everyone helps everyone because it's a group-based game. You don't solo from start to finish. Even if you want to, you can't really do it. You are required to play together and work as a team to get things accomplished. There are just as many things to do in Final Fantasy XI as there are in World of Warcraft. Quests, grinding, crafting, mining, and miscellaneous adventuring. However, the huge difference between the two is that Final Fantasy XI made everything a lot more challenging.

So with everything I've said in the paragraphs before this, it seems to me like the reason you think Final Fantasy XI sucks is because it challenges you and you are not up to it. You are more than welcome to disagree, but it's obvious that you don't want anything to be difficult. It took me three weeks playing just an hour or so a day to get where I'm at in World of Warcraft. It took me nearly four years to get where I'm at in Final Fantasy XI.

I'd much rather a challenge. I'm done though now. ;)

read the title again "what are YOUR thoughts of the game"

i don't mind a challenge, heck i prefer challenges over easy encounters... the reason i prefer WoW end-game raiding over PvP(considering i'm experienced and good in the PvP it's hardly a challenge)

the thing with FFXI is that i have read the manual, 3 different guides on the internet and have hurt my head for several weeks on how to get a decent amount of XP

the game was perhaps too complicated, and perhaps also not fast paced enough, since here i noticed you got the time to use an ability, while in WoW you either miss the ability or die,
different styles different preferences... end of story...

i think FFXI fails, you don't, live with it

That's all I wanted. A little reasoning behind your statement. Thank you. =D

Meh... To me, it's Everquest mixed with a little Lineage with the Final Fantasy name slapped onto it to please the rabid MMO/FF fanboys and fangirls... I don't consider it a FF game, honestly... They should have just called it FF Online and given the 'XI' to a more story-driven/character-driven game.

I agree. I don't understand why they'd label it that. Whatever though.

I played a little bit of my boyfriends game, so I can't really say much.

My boyfriend on the other hand was very disappointed with it. He canceled his account. He plays WOW now and says it's a much better game.

I have an important message to all of you that play this....I hate you :(....I wish my parents hadn't cancelled their credit cards

If you're old enough and can get a debit card at a bank, you can use those too. >_>
