Volcano help please

I've just got to the volcano and those pyro-bird-things keep wiping me out. I've sacrificed all my other stats for mag def which is higher than their mag att but they still hit me for about 950 damage, can't find any where else to go (just joined the paladins) and leveling up against the next most powerfull monsters is redundant (so little exp per win), am I missing somthing here?

What abot the red mushroom things??? I changed strategy and concentrated in str and spd , my Str is now way higher than their def but I still cannot harm them. Don't tell me I HAVE to learn magic to progress... that would be shit.

First of all, try to get a teammate, if you can. If not...

Focus on getting a lot of speed. Don't worry about magic defense- those enemy's spells are so strong, they will most likely wipe you out no matter how much MAG DEF you have. Give your pet Cura and some offensive spells- the only way to hurt the Flans is with spells or an incredibly strong attack (there is no way you could do that just yet). Blizzara is a great choice. And please, get some more HP, 100 is way too little...
