Well, I know that people have very mixed opinions on vegetarians/vegans so I thought I would make a thread on it. (Also I didn't see one anywhere)

What are your opinions on it? Are you a vegetarian? If so, then what made you become one?

I'm not personally. It's fine if perhaps something has happened in their life(like being put off by seeing a cow being slaughtered) or if it's been imposed by their parents. But when they just choose to because it's wrong or it's ashame for the animals then that's rubbish. It's unhealthy not to eat meat( i forget the name of the disease get from from the lack of nutrients from meat or whatever). Where are they protesting at the zoo's to stop feeding meat to the lions and tigers?

I'm not a vegetarian, but, on that note, I don't disagree with it either. If they can get along eating vegetables and enough protein-rich items to replace meat, all the more power to them. My choice to not be a vegetarian though, are that i like the taste of some meats, and it's much simpler to cook meat than try to find the right products to replace them.

I considered becoming a vegetarian when i was younger but thought it was a silly idea given that I don't like vegetables. I wouldn't restrict myself to being vegetarian though, and my main reason for being put off meat was that the idea of eating an animal freaked me out. But I think that when people don't want to eat meat (or any other animal product for that matter) because it's 'not fair on the animals' is just stupid. In cases like that it's like a protest or fast against people who kill animals for meat, which is pointless because people aren't going to stop eating meat, for many many reasons, so why bother restricting yourself like that? And veganism is taking stupid to a whole new level in my opinion. Not only is it extremely unhealthy to live off boiled vegetables (yum), but people like that are basically saying that we should just leave animals completely alone. I personally believe that everything in life has a purpose, and the cows are *there* to give us milk! I can understand people being against battery hens or companies like KFC who are really cruel to chickens, but if that's the case then just don't buy battery eggs.

im not a vegetarian, i like to eat meat, but i dont oppose vegetarianism, what right do any of us have to criticise someone because of their diet.

it's ashame for the animals then that's rubbish
so your saying its perfectly normal to eat dogs and cats and any kind of animal?

It's unhealthy not to eat meat
actually its much healthier to be a vegetarian than an omnivore of carnivore.

If people want to eat cat then fine, I personally find the idea of it really weird because to me it would be like eating a human, but there are many types of exotic meat that I wouldn't eat. I don't even eat lamb, although that's mainly because I find it nauseating.

Yeah... Except for the whole muscle loss thing... And if they eat stuff with protein, that protein's typically hard for the body to use, depending on what provides the protein.

Depends on how much meat. Me personally i eat to much meat and not enough vegies which you would probably notice if you saw my belly lol. Same if you eat to much vegies and not enough meat. It's all about balance. Walfblack hit the nail on the head. If you get your meatly nutrients from other source from suppliment pills etc then it's fine. for a while i needed iron supliments but now i drink alot of OJ and eat baked beans more which is fine

Not that i would ever and i would be like WTF if I saw somebody eatting a terrier or something. But well yes. If people started eating cats 200 years ago it wouldn't be a thing for anybody these days. It's only because cows and chickens etc taste so good that people have been eating them for years.

I'd just like to add that Cat and Dog are both delicacies in the Philippines... Just putting that out there...

vegetarians have a slighter lower protein intake than other people but still enough, they dont suffer from muscle loss.
yeah that protein is hard to use but if they eat the right kind of vegetables then they dont have to worry about it.

lol. people that eat a bit of meat and lots of vegetables are typically more healthy than anyone else.

they are in a lot of asian countries arent they?
thats why i brought up cats and dogs, if you say there is nothing wrong with eating animals then it would be hypocritical to say their is nothing wrong with eating domesticated animals

im pretty sure that dogs and cats and whales taste good too.

I'd actually like to try cat or dog... But only as long as the cat/dog wasn't owned before it was cooked (in which case, the animal isn't domestic :P). And actually, the main reason for eating chickens and cows is... Do they really serve much of a purpose besides providing a form of food for other creatures...? With cows, it's Milk and Meat, with Chickens, it's Eggs and Meat. They're not really exceptional at eliminating pests or any other great purpose... Yes, chickens can eat bugs, but they're typically partial to seeds, and seeds don't really harm anything. As for cows, they eat grass... Wow...

cats and dogs have been domesticated, so to get one that hasnt been owned you would have to go the SCPA and i doubt they would let you have one.

Cows=dairy products
Chickens= eggs

OK, yes, I know, it took me a while to find this. And yes, call me stupid, but the reason I don't eat meat is because, well, I don't find it nice to kill an animal just to eat it. That animal could have had a rich life of eating, sleeping, and mating. Yes, we have diferent standars of living to them, but just because their standards they have makes them lesser than us. (sorry to make this thread an animal war, but this is one of the reasons I became vegetarian)

You know, we could have waited for the animal to die of a natural death, then eat it, sure, then by all mean, I'll eat it, but to kill it before it dies, in my books, that is murder, and thats wrong

In other words, I find death very off putting

The idea of not eating animals 'just because it isn't nice' makes no sense to me. I have nothing against you, personally, Darkstar. In fact, I like your replies because they typically add another side to each coin.

However, why I cannot understand it is this... Animals eat each other anyway. It makes no difference how we kill it to eat it; were it in the wild, it would just die/be killed and be eaten in a different manner.

But, in closing, I would like to reiterate that the idea is merely an annoyance to me. I don't devalue anyone for having such a perspective.

What about vegetarians who eat fish. Thats just stupid. You can't pick and choose if your gonna be a vegetarian.

Actually, they can... it's like people who just choose to eat select meats... Like 'vegetarians' who have chicken in their salads. Come on... You all know you eat chicken. ;P And I don't blame them if they do... Chicken's good eats. ^^

if you eat some meat then your not a vegetarian. You just don't like most meats. It sort of defeats the entire purpose of being a vegetarian. You eat meat just not ALL meat

different kind of meat.
vegetarians who eat fish are called pesco-vegetarians and the reasons they do vary, one guy said that because fish deserved to eaten for not evolving.

Chicken's good eats
it is mmm so good.
some vegetarians eat chiken and fish, because the meat is white not red, so they dont eat steak or lamb etc.

So they eat white meat? Thats still cheating. Your a vegetarian if you 'don't eat meat right? It's stupid really. Your not a vegetarian if you eat meat.
