How to create an easy background for renders
Photoshop CS6.

Step 1 → [CLICK] Start off by opening your render in the specified signature size you want it to be in, place just the render before starting. I'm going with a 500x230px size for this example tutorial. I'm doing this in Photoshop, but you GIMP users might have things similar to this technique.

Step 2 → [
CLICK] Make a new layer under the render. (Make a new layer, and drag it to the bottom). With the eyedrop tool, I suggest taking two dark colours off the render, one a lighter shade than the other. The red circles are the two places I took a colour from. One the layer we made below the render, select it, and go to Filter > Render > Clouds. This will give you something like the example picture.

Step 3.1 → [CLICK] You're going to apply this image, and do some smudging. Easy smuding. Smudge the whole piece. To apply the image: Make sure you're on the top layer, select all: (Ctrl+A), then copy the whole piece, layers included: Ctrl+Shift+C, paste: Ctrl+V. This will apply the image with it's layers on a new layer. Take your smudge brush, and go over the complete piece.
Step 3.2 → [CLICK] You can also just smudge around the sides of the render to give off a water effect, this takes a bit more experience to pull off in order for it to look good, and not just messy. So, I'm going to skip this one for now, but yeah, you can see the effect in the CLICK me on 3.2 either way if you're curious.

Step 4 → [CLICK] I suggest you set the smudged layer on Overlay, and just erase some parts around the face/highlight part of the render with a soft brush set with the opacity down to at least below 50%. What the smudging on overlay does, is give her natural highlights/shadows. It makes her less slapped on. Of course this piece needs a LOT more to it, but this was a tutorial on how to make an easy background. If you're curious about the end result, view the video below. I already made a signature with this render, so that's the way I'm going with this one too.

I hope you guys were able to follow the tutorial. It's pretty easy once you repeat this for a while. I always used to have trouble with renders and their backgrounds, but remember, there's more ways to make a render have a nice background without looking slapped on. This is just an easy self creation! :D Good luck!

Old signature result!

Not as good as the previous one. It's weird working on the same render twice. xD However this was thrown together in about 10 minutes so.... There's that.

Here's the new result.
