[TU] Favourite Heroes/Villains

Batman: Darkest and most realistic (if you can classify a multi-billionaire who clearly works out way too much, and can survive massive bodily injury real) of all the heros I've been exposed to to / actively followed. Plus the fact he's out more for revenge than actual protection of citizens is a plus in my book. Superman and Spiderman, and some others just come off as too powerful for me. Too DBZ.

Joker: Obviously, from name. He has no real powers, like the Bat, and he's just plain crazy. Between him and that one movie... Uh... I'm trying to think of the dude that wrote or directed that old 60s or 70s movie of the clown killing people, before that and Joker, I'm willing to bet very few people were actually afraid of clowns.

As heroes go, I'd probably have to say Batman. He sits on top of the world but still puts his neck on the line.
My favorite villian is Magneto. Because he isn't necessarily 'bad', he just reacts with force rather than peace.

As far as the next batman, Daniel Day-Lois should be the Joker and Johnny Depp as the riddler.

Hrm...lotta Bat-fans.

Anyway, if I may add a third grouping to this...

Heroes:
  • Hollis Mason (Nite Owl). I get that a lotta Watchmen fans might like Rorschach, but there's just something nice and relaxing about Hollis Mason. He comes across as the most well-grounded-in-reality character who at least knew what he was doing with the hero thing and understood his limits rather well.
  • Dick Grayson (Nightwing). The lighter-half of the dynamic duo. I liked how he seemed to adjust to the early tragedy in his life far better than Bruce did, and still managed to carve out a solid spot for himself in the DC Universe
  • Tag Greenley and Bink Otuana. Okay, I doubt many people know about these dudes. They're two completely incompetent rebel officers in the Star Wars universe who completely bungle their way through the events of both trilogies (former Jedi padawans in the prequels) and somehow end up influencing all the major moments in both (Who do YOU think gave Anakin all the gag-worthy lines he used while hitting on Padme?)
  • The Great Red Dragon. One of the main characters of the "Bone" comic book, the Red Dragon is a laid back, sarcastic, and generally hilarious character. Not wanting anyone to know he exists until he believes it's time to find out, he seems to come and go as he pleases, usually timing his arrivals and departures to make everyone else think that those he encounters are just plain nuts. What makes it great; is that he openly admits this fact.

Anti-Heroes
  • Richard (Chief Warlock of the Brothers of Darkness, Lord of the Thirteen Hells, Master of the Bones, Emperor of the Black, Lord of the Undead, and Lord of the Dance). A Looking For Group character. He travels (as a prosecutor demon puts it) with a group of good and neutral aligned beings and hasn't slaughtered a single one of them yet. In face, he seems to have suggested that it's his destiny to help Cale'anon Vatay become a great king in the land of Kethenecia. Still, that hardly stops him from killing babies, incinerating rabbits, turning dragons into glass, and lighting kittens on fire.
  • Selina Kyle (Catwoman). Because dammit, she's a fun character and I'm a huge BatCat 'shipper.
  • Jason Todd (the Red Hood) The second Robin, and later the second incarnation of "The Red Hood". He's got all the training Batman's gotten, all the gear and weapons, a rather badass looking outfit, and a personality that seems to have inspired the "Red X" character of the Teen Titans cartoon. Still, unlike Red X and definitely unlike Batman; he's not opposed to using lethal force when necessary. It is worth noting, that he just about always deems it necessary.
  • Proinsias Cassidy. Preacher's "realistic take" on vampires. He still burns up in the sun, he's still immortal and freakishly strong, but blood doesn't have to come from a virgin, he loves garlic, doesn't give two fucks about the cross, and swimming across moving water's hardly a problem. He's a fun-loving guy who unfortunately seems to have developed a case of apathy-towards-non-immortal-lifeforms.

Villains:
  • Megatron. Specifically; the incarnation depicted in Megatron: Origin. He's a brutal, uncaring gladiator who unites the trigger-happy psychopaths and defunct miners of the Cybertron Underground and holds them all under one badge; that of the Decepticons. Really, his rise to power is something to read and his fight against Sentinel Prime does an excellent job of showing off his brutality.

"They say wisdom is gained through suffering, Sentinel Prime. Today, I intend to make you very wise indeed!"

  • "Holiday". Read Batman: Long Halloween and Batman: Dark Victory. They're both amazing and make for one of the best Batman stories I've ever read. I'd like to go into more detail on who Holiday is, but I'll just ask that you read the two comics I've mentioned.
  • Victor Von Doom (Doctor Doom) Probably my favorite comic villain of all time. Appearance, origin, personality...this guy is great. First off on the appearance; I like to think of it as the hallmark of a great villain if they don't change appearance whenever it happens to suit the times (I'm looking at you; redhead Luthor). Granted Doom did have that "2099" thing, but that was a spinoff :p He's just about always stayed in the same green cloak/tunic with grey armor and a mask. Furthermore, despite all of the scarred/disfigured heroes, Doom has NEVER had his disfigured face revealed. There've been hints, especially in the Claremont/Larroca run of Fantastic Four, but nothing definite has yet been revealed. All we know is that like the Professor in Gilligan's Island who could make a nuclear reactor out of coconuts and bark, Victor Von Doom can construct time machines and gain the powers of a god, but still can't permanently fix his face.
  • The Stupid Stupid Rat Creatures. Another Bone entry, they're two foul-smelling, vicious monsters who enjoy a good quiche every now and then, and when confronted with any of their villainous deeds (eating orphans and the like) simply offer the excuse "We're monsters! We're not supposed to be considerate and rational! Besides, you guys look like Hors d'oeuvres to us!"
  • Harvey Dent (Two-Face). See: "Holiday".

Spiderman
too powerful
Okay while I suppose it is good to see someone acknowledge Spidey's power levels (not many people remember that he's physically strong enough to stop trains, and throw buses) I'd hardly consider him DBZ level, nor would I even call him "too powerful". He's not the least bit bulletproof, and more often than not when he fights another supervillain, he typically leaves the battlefield half-dazed and staggering.
