And I had one of those garden spiders make a web in my yard.... THEY ARE HUGE!!!! And they make that little zig-zag thing in their web for some reason...... It ran away because the mowers destroyed its web 2 times.... But I actually thought that they were Banana Spiders.... They might be, but they are very nasty..... AND WILL YA'LL STOP POSTING SPIDERS ON THIS THREAD!!!!!!!!??????

Nope, banana spiders are of a different genus and have different colorations, but they do make the same web patterns the argiope does. And have a banana spider, because I'm a cruel bastard:

I love spiders. Not when there's 20,000 of them but normally I like spiders. The Marksman Spider is actually the most poisonous spider in the world. Not the Wandering Spider I don't think... I could be wrong though.

Scorpions are pretty hardcore. I never see them at my own home, but the guy across the street has them real bad.

Marksman spider? Is that the real name? I just googled it and couldn't find a damn thing.

Scorpions are badass, they've never bothered me for some reason either.

Dobsonflies look pretty scary, despite being harmless.

I'm sure you've all learned about the "flight or fight" instinct at some point in school. Well I have both when it comes to spiders. My first instinct is to freak out and run away (or flail my arms and yell if one lands on me or if I walk into a cobweb), then immediately run back and kill the bugger for scaring me.

When I see a spider, my heart stops for a few seconds. I stare at it, paralyzed with fear. I don't want to take my eyes off it, giving it the chance to get away (I can't rest knowing it's lurking about)...but at the same time, I want nothing more than to stop looking at it.

I always decide on trying to kill it myself, but I never can. I can take small hopping spiders...but anything bigger is too much for me. I get my mom to get 'em for me.

Oh, and this thread is now a spider thread so we can all learn to overcome our fear :wacky: I'll show you guys some of the spiders that infest the area I live in.

Jumping Spider. These things amuse me more than anything else, they're tiny, fuzzy, run around in funny ways...and hop.

Crab Spider. Again, they just amuse me since they're tiny and run like crabs.

Brown Recluse Spider. Tons of these in TN. And they can kill you. Not fun.

Argiope aurantia (garden spider). I HATE these things with a passion. Not deadly and get rid of plenty of bugs, but dear sweet Jesus I freak out when I see them. And we get TONS of them in the summer in my yard. Did I mention they're huge? They can be 1 1/2 - 2 inches in the body, 3 inches if you count the legs.

And now my skin is crawling. I'm done.

The hopping spider isn't too bad. It's almost cute...in a disgusting sort of way.

EDIT: The funnel spider (JUST saw it after posting this), on the other hand, freaked me out pretty badly.

Thaaaaaat did it. No more of this thread for me. That last one was too much.

And to at least try to answer that question: retardation???

Are those mandibles even useful? o_O They look like they'd just get in the way of everything.

As it turns out, they're too weak to be painful pincers and are just to hang on to females while they fly around and do their crazy mating thing.

lmao, sex pincers :wacky: These stag beetles, on the other hand, are pretty badass. We had a type of them down in Memphis too:

You know, these slippers would probably scare me.

They were scary until I saw the eyes xD

Once one of those things clamped onto my finger, had to spray it in the face with water to get it to let go.

Awe no comment on the head full of spiders or the lady who is about to eat one. XD

I didn't even notice the lady eating one. I'm not scared of spiders at all and that's still pretty gross. Spiders got protein though.

ow O_O I wish we had these things around here:

That's right, because I tried my best to ignore them but thank you SO much for reminding me of them -__-

I one time read on the back of a ceral box that everyone will eat at least three spiders in your life time. Some are so tiny that they will be in your food or crawl in your mouth while you sleep and you will not even notice it.

Also the Magic School Bus informed me that since there are so many spiders in the world, you are never three feet away from one.

Oh the rinocerous beatle! I heard that they are the strongest animal in the world. On animal planet, some people have two of them fight and they take bets on who's going to win.
