Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place!
OK so I've decided to play FF12 as I'm incredibly bored and have no more Uni work for now. The thing is, I had previously played it and had got to over 9 hours of gameplay, then stopped playing partly due to me being cross at dying after playing for ages with no savepoint around. I looked at my memory card and i last played it over 2 years ago! I don't really remember the story line... but then I also think I don't want that 9 hours just going to waste.

What to do?? Start from scratch or carry on and hope the storyline starts to make some sense as I play? 9 hours, gahh!

If anyone wants to know, the bit where I got stuck was in some city (after getting an airship there) and going into some random temple, fighting loads of monsters then getting chased by some baddies. They killed me! I was maaaaad. OK i just looked on my mem card, I got to Bhujerba, Lhusu Square. Thanks if anyone bothers to reply with any advice or helpful information! :busta:

peace

Well it wouldn't hurt to start over and it could still make since if you kept playing. Me on one hand would start over if I didn't know where to go or what to fight. I have done this in other final fantasy games. If you like the game then it wouldn't hurt to play it again.

Thanks, yeah you're right, I know I wouldn't have really understood what was going on if i carried on from my 9 hours. So I started a new game this afternoon and am 3 hours in... and finding it OK actually, I'm not really that bothered that I have to do it again. Also Vaan is so annoying, I liked him 2 years ago! I have obviously become a cynic over the last 2 years lol. What's up with his voice?! Ugh I hate it. And I've noticed a few worrying similarities to Tidus, including that arrogant 'putting the hands behind his head and thrusting his torso out' stance.

OK my next question is, should I get Vaan learning black magic and stuff now, or should I save all the magic stuff for only a few members of the party?
I'm not sure if I like the licence board. I much preferred the sphere grid in FFX!

I would leave the black magic i usually give him white magic like hastega it really comes in handy.

Admitedly, I liked the story FFXII had, it was just other aspects that made me feel disappointed. FFXII seems to have a political based and more mature/adult storyline than other FF's and isn't as simple as other FF's which is why people seemed to be more confused imo.

But you probably need to level more, FFXII is one of those games where at some point or other you'll need to level to progress further, unless you're a hardcore FF or XII player. :-)

Completely agree with the political theme- I didn't follow it when I played 2 years ago, but this time round it makes sense (I guess I've grown up a lot in 2 years). I'm glad the levelling strategy made a comeback in this game, I do like that. There'll be no problems with the needing to levelling up even more, I'm quite strange in that I really enjoy doing random battles for hours on end to level up my characters.

And kylzer, thanks for the advice, i'm going to learn just the basic black magic and concentrate on white magic like you suggested. And then I'll make Vaan a hardcore killing machine!

When I found out that ff12 was based in the same world as the tactcs games I learned how to accept the storyline. As for battleing and the licence board... thats took me a little to get use to. anyways its a good game with loads of side quests. have fun.

Thanks Sora_lion_heart! Yeah the licence board is slowly becoming easier to navigate. So can the people in my party fight with any weapon I equip them with now? Like, they can all share weapons and noone has a particular style of weapon they use? Sorry if this question is stupid, I haven't come across any shops/ merchants for a while to actually see for myself whether I can equip the party with different types of weapons. If this is the case, are any weapons more suitable to the characters than others?

another RE

As far as I know bathier works better with guns then the rest and fran works better with bows. Each character works good with certain weapons, but it don't matter you can equip everyone with anything. the only thing I think differs is armor hats that work only for girls (if there is any) but everything could be neutral. I'll try to find some faq real quick and edit if I get the chance.

EDIT - it was all pretty much opinions. From what I've gathered the type of weapons they start out with are the best.

As this thread deals more wholly with opinions and preferences than the intention of seeking help, I think it would be more suited to being posted in the Final Fantasy XII forum.

So how's the progress going so far? You enjoying it? As for equipping people, I tend to use swords for all my characters. They're like, my favourite weapons :P

I certainly feel your pain, as I did exactly the same thing myself!

If you intend to go back to the game I suggest that you do start again rather than continure from a previous save. When your first starting out the names of countries anc haracters and who is at was with who etc acan get tad confusing and starting out with a lot of explanations already done would be a bad idea. I started again myself after playing for around 12 hours and it was certainly a good job that I did (it was around the two year mark that I left the game for too!).

I died 100000000 times and I quit for 6 months at a time each time I died. My advice is don't give up, just take a week break and get back on it.

i would start again... if you cant remember the story line... then starting again is an added bonus.
i finished 12 and did it again... but instead of leveling up everyone i only kept 3 and the others i didnt use, but it did get tough when i died and i only had the weak ones left :P

Well I have not even finished Xii I am only in the middle and I stopped playing so I can play X-2. Yes seeing as this is an awesome game so far I would probably replay it. But I just want to finish this after I play X-2.

Lol, the only reason i wouldn't wanna play this game over is cause of the Espers and the pharos at ridorana (DAMN TOWER)
